Bricks of the Realm vignette series
About this creation
You are a young adventurer, setting out for glory, riches, and conquest. You journey to the barren land of Brickia, where many an adventurer has met his demise.

Dire Scorpions: A particularly nasty and large breed of scorpions known for attacking in large groups.
Health: 3
Along the way you pick up a cloak and shortsword. You have been trapped by Frogmen!

Frogmen: Sneaky, but not very brilliant. They like to scatter coins to lure adventurers into traps.
Health: 5

You have survived many harrowing events, and have made your way to the market, a place to trade, purchase, and learn things that will assist you in your journeys.

You delve into the deep caverns, and find yourself at the edge of a great subterranean lake. You buy a raft from the tunnel nymphs and set out for the opposite shore. But from the deep, a lurking monster attacks! The dreaded Decipus!

Decipi: Come from underneath boats and rafts, using their tentacles to drag down both the craft and its occupants.
Health: 11

Upon reaching the other side, and collecting new gear, you are confronted by a marauding group of undead warriors!

Undead warriors: there's not much in their heads. Literally. They are commonly the result of careless wizards who confuse necromancy and wart removal spells. Still, they are dangerous, and can't be killed. Your best plans are to either wait for the spell to wear off, or (if you're in a rush) chop them up into enough little pieces that they don't really bother you anymore.

Heath: 15

You trek through the snowy wastes, unaware that Were-Penguin scouts are tracking you!

Were-Penguins: Have no known predators. Or if they do, all the predators have been killed. They are wary of strangers, and tend to kill those who wander into their domain. Not cruel, but still thorough and deadly.

Health: 17

The lower levels of the dwarven kingdom are know to house radioactive crystals. Unfortunately for the dwarf miners, they had no idea what radiation was. You have no idea that zombie dwarves exist. You had no idea, that is.

Zombie dwarves: Have given up their noble quest for gold and focus on only one thing: brains!

Health: 20

You enter the halls of the forgotten kingdom, where many strange mysteries abound. Among these, the disturbing Mimickers, who follow you and attack when your back is turned.

Mimickers: Perfectly duplicate (except the face) their victims, relying on surprise or stealth to slay their enemies.

Health: 23

You have reached the border of the Desert of Horrors unharmed. As you prepare for the journey to come, a deadly Flying Ostrich attacks!

Flying Ostritches: Ostritches can't fly, right? Wrong. Flying Ostritches are one of the largest flying birds, and the deadliest.

Health: 25

In the dungeons of terror, you come face-to-face with a deadly foe, Bonecrusher the troll!

Trolls: incredibly strong, incredibly stupid, and incredibly rude. No one knows why trolls hate everyone else, but they do. Having a shield is helpful when fighting them... for about the first five seconds...

Health: 33

You enter the dreaded Enchanted swamp. A low bank of mist obscures your surroundings. Suddenly, a glowing mass floats ominously toward you. The Will O' the Wisp has found you!

Will O' the Wisps: Mysterious and strange. They envelop a victim and drain their life. They are difficult to kill due to their vaporous nature, but your handy Sword of Annihilation should do the trick.

Health: 36

Even the bravest quail at the utterance of the black wood. You enter it, hoping for a short-cut to better lands, unaware of the terrors you must confront. Long ago, these were lush, verdant woods. Now they are dead, littered with the burnt and charred remains of an ancient battle and its white grave-markers. It is a place of absolute desolation and death... a place the Dark Warrior calls home.

The Dark Warrior: Silent and hateful, he is feared by all. Only the bravest can hope to meet him and live. Those who do, it is said, will never be the same again.

Health: 45

You are wearied from your adventures as you stumble into the Valley of Comfort. Glad for a break, you remove your armor and fish by the river. This is a place that welcomes travelers.

Tip: Get all the relaxing you can. This journey isn't over yet!

The ruins of an ancient kingdom house a monstrous creature. You meet the great Spiderbug and unsheathe your sword. This will not be a good day for Spiderbugs.

Spiderbugs: A half-insect, half-spider of enormous size. It's powerful mandibles can snap a man in half, and its deadly venom can kill even the great Moon Whales of the north.

Health: 64

The peoples of the land have long been opressed by the great red dragon. You promise to do battle with the beast. As you burst into the dragon's den, you come face to face with the greatest horror you have yet to see: a.... chicken? Actually, it's a dragon chick. After slaying it in fierce battle, you hear a rumbling noise. Hopefully the chick's mother isn't angry...

Dragon Chicks: When dragons first hatch, they resemble chickens. Dragon hatchlings, or "chicks", are incredibly dangerous. Firebreathing, poison, teeth, claws... no warrior wants to tangle with them!

Health: 70

As you wander through the halls of the great red dragon, the tremors increase. You enter an armory and aquire new weapons and armor... just in time. A huge serpantine head bursts through the floor, roaring with rage. You swallow and grip your sword as the great red dragon shoots flames into the air.

The Great Red Dragon: A massive beast almost as old as the mountain she resides in. Dragons collect the treasures of men, killing great armies in the process. These ancient creatures are pure evil. Only the greatest of warriors can hope to vanquish a dragon.

Health: 100

For hours, the sounds of your battle with the dragon echo down the mountainside. Then, the beast gives a great cry of death... and silence. Brave warriors ascend the mount and enter the caverns of the dragon. They find you, battered, burnt and broken in the rubble and carry you on a shield back to the city. As the procession makes its way down the street, men, women, children, and the elderly weep for their fallen hero. But lo! you still live! The people's mourning turns to festive celebration as they prepare a feast in your honor. The celebrations last for two weeks and a day. Songs are sung in your honor and statues of your likeness are raised everywhere. You have made your homeland proud.

Tip: Now that your adventures are over, you can retire quietly. There's still lots of things you can do, like training warriors or telling stories of your adventures.

It has been many years since your battle with the dragon. Your wealth and fame has grown incredibly. You have had seven sons, the bravest warriors in the land, and seven daughters, fairer than any others and married to the noblest kings of the world. Your stories are popular among the children of the lands, and men tell your legends around flickering fires. When your armor has rusted, and your treasures have turned to dust, still the tales of your deeds will live on in the hearts of storytellers and their audiences. They will be told and retold again, and again, and again.

THE END
