Yes the famous jet from various movies and video games such as Behind Enemy Lines and Battlefield 3. I based this plane's paint scheme off of the Jolly Rogers Squadron. I tried to make it as acuarate as possiblie by looking at pictures from all angles. I wasn't going to build the whole aircraft carrier deck at first but I thought it would help illustrate the scale of the aircraft better.
About this creation
I have a feeling that sending the planes off is a hardcore job
Notice the catapult operators room in the background
Notice the ATFLIR pod on the right air intake
Retracting landing gear
"BRRRRRRRR" I know you know what I'm talking about
Classic airforce logo picture
I think the wings might have been a stud too long
The cockpit with HUD
Green shirts maintain and prepare the catapult, red shirts prepare weapon systems, and yellow shirts direct aircraft on the deck
Just thought I would highlite the diversity in the Navy with the lady pilot
Here's a few updated pictures. I took them a while back but didn't get around to uploading them.
I squared off the air intakes to make it more accurate to the F18F model
Very, very nice! I think that there are a few improvements to be made, the wings are a bit bulky for the design, the intakes you currently have are reminiscent of an F-15; you shouldn't be able to see square shapes, and finally, I feel that the cockpit should be a a stud or two higher. HOWEVER, when you included that catapult scene.....oh boy. Excellent job on that; 5/5!
Incredible model mate! As an RAAF Cadet, I am learning all about the jet, as I am planning to become a pilot for one. The wings look fine to me, however the rear of the wings are square on this model, the F/A-18fs bends back towards in a swept wing style rather than a delta ;) . Apart from that, this is a great model! I would love to be able to buy one of these as a kits!
Great work on capturing the shape of the F-18. You've said that you think the wingspan is too big: I'd think they could be bigger in span or shorter in chord to look totally correct. I like the paint work that you've built into the tail and the carrier deck, with its steam catapult and blast deflector, display your MOC really well. Nice one!
