1:8 scale 1964 Ferrari 250 GTO
About this creation
I hear you thinking "What! A car from DeTomaso, this can't be true" Well ladies and gentlemen it is very true indeed. Feast your eyes on my biggest car to date. A commissioned 1964 Ferrari 250 GTO.

I will no go into too much detail about the commission, apart from this particular car used to be raced by the legendary Graham Hill.

This had to be a special car so I draughted in the amazing Nick Barrett to help me with the project.

It was a great experience and one that I would love to have again. Nick was a pleasure to work with. Nick built the chassis before he came to visit and I had a whole load of red and medium blue plates waiting for us to build up the beautiful body work together. We built the bodywork in a day and a half :-)

I will admit this isn't my favourite shape GTO but I still think it is a beautiful car.

It was a very nice change from my bird project to build this car and even better as I got paid to do it :-)

I hope you like it as much as I do. It is now sitting on a lovely Oak base with a brass plaque with the name of the car on. I have to say goodbye to it tomorrow but it is going to a very good home!

Thanks for viewing

Hi Tom, looking back to this amazing car after some time and I was wondering: where is it now? Do you still have it? It's not always you look back at a car which is like a year old and still love every photo of it.

Yeah, another "big one" that has been in an open tab, waiting for me to write a comment... Where do I start? The shaping? Ok! It's great, great great! It's unbelievable how you get to build these curved shapes with your "studs outside" technique. The model is instantly recognizable! All the opening parts are there, too, as well as a complete interior and engine compartment. It's just amazing! Great job! :-))

Seriously, the combination of You and Nick together producing this exquisite build is nothing short of spectacular! Where do I even start? The technic genius of Nick, and the sculpting prowess of you Tom, have created one heck of a MOC! If the Mocie awards weren't already handed out to the same guys who one it this year, and the year before, and the year before, and the year before, I would say this would be a shoe in =D Truthfully, a MOC like this is bigger than any internet award, it is commissioned excellence! Wow. Simply put, this is the greatest lego car ever made. Full stop. Nicks Chassis looked great, and I was really excited to see what the body would look like, and it is beautiful. I'd love to get paid to make a lego model for someone, though I can't imagine anyone ever buying anything I made. The body is just so perfect, all the details are exactly right and nothing is exaggerated or over the top, it is just gorgeous. Maybe when I've got enough money lying around, I'll employ you and Nick to build something like this for me. A DB5 maybe, or a BMW 2002.. Or a 250 Testa Rossa! Anyway, this is both a beauty and a technical masterpiece. Like I said, the greatest lego car ever made. It feels like I'm repeating myself, sorry haha! Oh, and could you do me a HUGE favour and add it to the group cars of the 60s? I'd love it if you did! For the 465th time, great build, and I hope to see you and Nick do something like this again sometime. Sorry for making you read all that ;)

Quoting Tom Remy Fantastic work, Tom and Nick! I agree it's a shame to hide Nick's chassis :) and therefore, I have a question: is the "cover" designed to be removed easily, so that you can have a look at all the technic parts? BTW, another question if you don't mind: do you order parts in advance when you sell a model, or do you simply take them out of your collection? Great job anyway! --Tom--
Hi Tom, great name ;-) Unfortunately the bodywork can not be removed from the chassis which is a shame but I wouldn't really want the client taking it off and something breaking lol. I ordered all the pieces I though I would need before Nick came round and I had to raid my collection also. I need to re-stock on red plates. We only just had enough, phew!

This is the Series II GTO, right? I particularly like the way you've done the vents behind the rear wheels...I must steal it for my GTO which I will build for the CRTs. ;-) Well done both of you; now I wish I can make a trip to the UK and see this beauty in person. Can't wait to see your next car, Tom P (haha the front grill). What's that trans-green cheese on the roof for? -LB Jr.
Thanks LB! I'm glad you like it and am touched by your words. To answer your questions yes it is a series II and I haven't the foggiest what those things on the roof are, they were just a detail on the real thing that I had to include, maybe its to signify port and starboard lol Good luck with your GTO, you're going to need it at a smaller scale than this ;-) It get's shipped to the client tomorrow so I will no longer have it for people to see :-(

Stunning! Absolutely stunning! One of the world's best car built by two of the world's best LEGO car builders. This is a great collaboration, Tom and Mr. Barret! -LB Jr.
