As I said previously, this model is rather a product of accident than planned built. I lost heart for my Tomcat and I was trying just playing with bricks looking for some solutions. It took me some time, but here it is: 1:33 scale model of SAAB JAS-39C Gripen #231. Similarly to my Fulcrum, it has working landing gear, flaps, canards, air breaks, canopy. In general I'm quite happy with the result, although there is something in nose section than bothers me, but I can't really name it. Whole model is divided into 3 sections: front section, landing gear section and engine section. It should allow me an easy conversion between C and D version of Gripen, as well as between C and NG (different construction of main landing gear). Armament consists of 2 AIM-9L (I'm quite pleased with their design) plus 4 AIM-120B AMRAAM.In the last picture you can see the details of landing gear construction.
Here, for comparison with my MiG:
I think that you've captured the shape of this aircraft exactly in this MOC, including details such as the undercarriage and the missiles. I like how you've got moving control surfaces with no gaps in the wings and the contours of the nose are great too.
My first idea for canards was the same as yours, but this piece is waaay to small and it has completely wrong angle (45 degrees instead of ~60), although I agree that those slopes are not looking very good. As for the AIM-9L, if you take a look at this photo: http://web.bg.uw.edu.pl/welw/military.pl/samoloty/gripen/gripen_02.jpg it can be seen that there is a change of diameter at the end of the missile, which is duplicated to some extent by usage of this round plate. Also, it was the only way to keep those 1x1 tiles in place.
Excellent Gripen. Nice to see something a bit different, too. I do not want to sound critical, but for the canards I would have used the large 4x1x3 tail pieces (240) as they are considerably thinner than using wedge bricks. I like the AIM-9Ls, but I think they would look even better without the circular plate (4032) on the end. Great work.
