Mariner's Church in Detroit is perhaps most famous for the reference in the Gordon Lightfoot song, "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald," in which he sings, "In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed/at the Maritime Sailor's Cathedral" and later references the fact that the bell was rung 29 times to commemorate the 29 lives lost when the ship went down.

The church was built in Detroit in 1849 but was later moved 900 feet to its present location. It's most notable feature is the anchor-cross on the bell tower.

The model appeared in MichLUG train shows in Livonia in November of 2002 and Novi (GATS) in January of 2003.
