About this creation

The Solaria-class dreadnought is a fairly recent addition to the Alliance of Planets Defense Fleet. Several projects were amalgamated with the Solaria being the end result. AoP Admiralty wanted a dreadnought-type starship with a punishing broadside and heavy forward firepower rating that could stand up to large star fortresses.

To that end, and taking lessons learned from the prototype of the Broadsword-class assault carrier (on which it is very loosely based), the bow was heavily armored, and equipped with a spinal mounted class-7 plasma cannon of devastatingly destructive potential, also known as a siege cannon. The weapon's barrel runs fully half the length of the ship. Four photon artillery cannons were also tacked on for additional long range firepower.

Turning broadside, the dreadnought's five capital laser turrets and flank-mounted laser, beam, and pulse batteries ensure that anything that can survive the ship's forward guns survives long enough to regret it. :la:

Design inspired by the Hecate-class destroyers from Freespace 2, as well as http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/128389 I referenced SO FRIGGIN MANY pics building this thing, and the aft quadrant took me FOREVER to settle on a design I was at least satisfied with! We'll just say that this one grew on me.
