A pirate's life for me: Build a scene showing pirates doing what pirates do. Are they having a swash buckling battle with another vessel on the high seas? Drunken nights at the port town? Ransacking a small coastal village? Show us your best pirate scene!
About this creation
The best part of this contest is, when you're lucky enough, you never know what cathegory is going to hit you in the next round. Though my sigfiggy has a classic pirate head I've never built in the pirates theme before and to be honoust: I wasn't planning either. But this one's against Tom Remy. And from what I've seen in his entries, he's going all out in each and every one of them. So, I hope I've put something worthy of competition out here?! I tried to keep it as classic as possible, keeping faithfull to the ones I've seen when I was a kid.
So here it is; the crew of the Black Barnacle have come to hide their loot on Carcass Island...

"Arrr, be sure we take land on the left side of the isle, mateys! Or we be in a great deal 'o trouble, I tell ya!"

"Now, be quick, ye scarvy dawgs! Unload the treasure!"

" 'n take special care of our friend here, it's very important we keep 'm alive...for now...har,har,har!"

"You lot go ahead 'n take the gold up while we help our safeguard "to the other side", arr harhar, I'm so funny."

"Oh, why we'd be always doing the hard work, while the capt'n he'll be chattin' with them landrats, eh?
"Ye be lucky you do the hard work. Last time he went "talkin" 'e lost a hand and a leg."

*gulp*"Did he, now?"
"Ay."

"Now you walk the plank 'n don't get any funny idea's, d'ya hear? This river's full o' piranha."

"Uhm, parlé?"

"That's right, boys! We brought y'all some lunch! That'll keep ya busy for a while... har, hargh, har!"

"Hurr, whog, gagh."
"Wor, bagh, wug, sausage!"
"Yuk."

"Oooh, there be two things that make me hands itch for more; a fresh maid in the harbor and a trove full o' sparklin' gold..."

"Honey, I'm home!"

Look! It's sig pirate figgy Gio!

Welcome, to Carcass Island!

And here's what I work with as a lighting set up. No lightbox, no photoshopping or editing; just a gazillion of plain pictures and a selection of the 26 best ones.
Well this one was sure a fun build and no matter what the outcome of this round is, Carcass Isle won't be deconstructed. My son Lennaert is having so much fun with it, especially the cannibal villages is a good playable feature.
Feel free to leave a comment, Pirate talk is well appreciated
and find the salami!

Found it! (Where else would it be?) Arrr, me timbers were well and truly shivered by looking at this MOC. Too bad Tom pipped you to the treasure, but fantastic build anyway! |

Your bricks on the black ship be a bit dusty there matey. Better swab the poop deck a bit. |

Gio, this is just an awesome entry and especially since you had to raid your kid's stash for figs hehe. I really liked this but I think Tom beat you out on the technical side of it and he got my vote. Thanks for a great entry! ~ Chris. |

I looked forward to this category and you two did not disappoint, because the syle of the entries is so different it was difficult to pick a favourite. I loved the first picture, it really sets the mood, I also like how you went for the more classic approach of pirates.
What I like most about your entry are the waterfall and the cliffs, very effective, the peaks at the boundry are a nice add.
In the end I decided to vote for your opponent, his built was technically a bit better IMO. |

Well done Gio! I love the round base, the waterfall, and the cave at the top of the mountain. This would certainly be a set I'd love to play with for a while. Unfortunately, my vote goes to Tom this round. From a realism standpoint, his build just topped yours, and it was nice to see a minifig-scale pirate ship in his build as well as some functional lights. That said, this was a tough round to judge, and I could see the final result going both ways. Good luck with the rest of the judges! |

Great job Gio! I love the mountain trails and the treasure hauling scenes....they capture the difficulties of hiding treasure in a rocky mountain perfectly. lol Both of you pulled out all the stops....it will be interesting to see who comes out on top this round. Good luck with the judges! |

Its like you took a classic pirates set and awesomized it! It has all the charm and quaintness of a classic set but all the detail and design we have come to expect from an expert builders moc. Excellent work and good luck. |

Cool! I love the scenography of the whole build, and the size of it! It's interesting that you chose the classic pirates theme, since I didn't! I'm through with the build, tomorrow is photo & story day, so... See you on sunday! Good luck to you, Gio! PS: I'm not on Facebook, but I managed to see your WIP: it made me build more! Sorry... ;-) And I found the salami too! Not sure to like a slice of this one though...
That's allright Tom, the more build, the more eye candy; especially in your case. Can't wait to see what you came up with and good luck to you too!

came back for more. That sun set in the opening picture is a really good idea. It's really like an extra treat, as it is not part of the other larger MOC, but the thematic connection is perfect. It's like the opening scene in a film. And the use of the orange plates in the water is very ambitious, and very effective. I dig it. Maybe next time, insert some black plates to be the reflection of the ship? Attack!
Thank you, Michael! I got the dark yellow semi disc as a gift from a friend and I instantly got the idea to use it for a sunset. Indeed, the ship could use some reflection too...next time then!

I think that the cliffs and waterfall are brilliant. I love the idea of pirate treasure being hidden in a cave, across a waterfall and guarded by cannibals. It has all of the elements of a classic children's pirate story. I can imagine that this really is fun to play with, as well as looking great. Exactly what Lego should be! |
