High Speed Interceptor
An interceptor designed to operate in the atmosphere and outer space.
About this creation

The High Speed Interceptor was painted in a high visibility colour scheme, after camouflage and surprise attacks were banned under the Geneva conventions. It was armed with two Rapier missiles.

This craft's four SCRAM jets and single rocket engine allowed it to be launched into orbit in a matter of minutes, ready to intercept targets around the world and in space.

The High Speed Interceptor was a Lego doodle that I made as a diversion from bigger projects. I made a stand so that I could put it on my desk. Once I'd built the model, I had a play in LDD too...

The LDD blueprints from the designers at Llwyngwril Space Systems.

The High Speed Interceptor seen in deep space. The original version, in real bricks, had some "illegal connections", which had to be changed in LDD.

A shot of the High Speed Intercpetor skimming across the ocean.

The images below aren't real Lego! They were created using LDD, LDD to POV Ray convertor and POV Ray. It took my rather elderly laptop over 6 hours to do each render.

by this mini ship i have the feeling that it is greater because it is still so rich in detail. And the colors are excellent, the grey looks very good to the yellow and red

Quoting Daniel Brilliant Nice POVray conversion. I'm going to be experimenting with that soon myself.
Thank you! I've been doing some Classic Space renders recently and found that Trans Yellow really slows POV Ray to a stop. Top tips are to "disable bevels" on trans elements and perhaps only use 800x600 pixels to half the number of pixels that your computer has to process. I'm going to publish a MOC with all of my POV Ray renders together soon. Good luck!

Quoting Tim C Nice micro, David. I like how you incorporated so many textures into such a small space. Love the thrusters on this one. The scale of your ship makes them look enormous. I also like the shaping. Reminds me a bit of a BSG Viper. Though you were pretty cruel to those poor studs that have a plate jammed in between them...cheater;)
Thanks for your comments. Lego used to use "illegal connections". My first ever Lego model was http://www.brickset.com/detail/?set=420-1, the 420 Police Car. It had an illegal connection and early SNOT too. Perhaps I should reform and follow the true path of happy connections! :)

Quoting Ludgonious . Almost like a cockpit strapped on a rocket! I bet this guy would be fun to fly. Nice little build.
I totally agree: the cockpit bolted on to a rocket was the look I was after :)

I love working on microscope builds of this size, The colours as always work brilliantly. Someone should set up a 50 piece micro-scale space challenge, that would be a lot of fun.
