Here is my Round 5 entry into the MOC Olympics.
About this creation
Legopard vs Heath Flor
Robot Jox: Your job is to create two robots (with pilots)in a knock down, drag out fight to the finish in gladiatorial style combat. This idea is inspired by (Read: stolen) the 1990 cult classic, Robot Jox http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robot_Jox (man I loved that movie). Consider this a mech type category so no microscale please. Your arena does NOT have to be a full scale "thing" with a FULL crowd and stands and all that (that would be asking WAY too much of some collections) but some sort of battle area must be built.

You can find the Moc Olympics homepage HERE

This was a tough challenge for me, because I had to leave for a business trip to Florida, and then I cam back to two very sick daughters. I was interrupted every 5-10 minutes (even now!), and it was difficult to put all of my energy into it. I'm very exhausted by this point. LOL

I had to watch the movie on youtube in 10 minute segments....it was a very....ummmmm.."interesting" movie. LOL Not my favorite, but not the worst either. It centers on the world super powers battling each other using mech robots instead of going to full blown war.

I decided to capture a scene of two powers getting ready to go to battle in their underground bunker.

Here we have the main hall on the second floor which overlooks the area where the presidents of the countries meet during a match.

This is the Red Team's side with a full hangar and maintenance crew for their bot.

Here we have the Green Team's hangar, once again with a full maintenance crew. Here we catch them working on a secret new weapon, and a spare leg.

Here the bots have moved to the surface for their battle!

nice kit! I saw that movie, except for the mechs, who where finely designed, nothing was worth watching, scenes were godzilla quality, but, those mechs were hard to forget, you did a pretty job on both, the base is cool and original in shape space management, I loved the glass panels with props behind concept, very nice touch, it s okudesque, lol! [mr okuda star trek design] yeah, nice piece.

Hey Heath, I'd like to personally apologize to you and all the other contestants for dropping off the face of MOCpages when I was supposed to be judging. With family obligations and near-finals homework and projects, I completely neglected the MocOlympics, and for that I'm sorry. Luckily, Kelso and Moodswim were able to help out! Congrats on advancing!

[NOTE] Chris asked me to be a guest judge, so lucky you! If this was based purely on the mech builds, Legopard would have you beat, sorry. However, your very elaborate and detailed stadium area/pit areas with various things going on with the figs pushed this over the top for me. You got my vote!

*Note* The head cheese, Mr. Phipson, has asked if I would step in as a replacement judge in a couple of matchups - this happens to be one of those. And, awwaaaaay we go...Great work, Heath, despite all of the non-Lego interferences (and boy, can I relate...you're a better man than I!). I feel like Legopard has ya beat on the bots themselves. His felt just a bit more complex and detailed, which I liked. HOWEVER, the set you've put together here is terrific, and puts it over the top for me. Love all of the fun little nooks and crannies with playable elements. I also LOVE the design with the battle field above and all of the maintenence below. I often tend to favor detailed, model-type creations, but here I just can't deny the cool factor of such great playability. You've got my vote, and well-done!

Looks like you went all out on this one, Heath. Your building style looks less detailed and has a more Classic Lego feel compared to Legopards, wich I totally favor, really! So much playability, hidden weapons on the ShannOy mecha and some nice easter eggs here and there. Too bad there's not a single salami involved here, I mean, really?! Good luck with your judges!

Looks like it's going down to the wire Mate! I love the visuals of the busy hanger bays and the elevators (and the guy with the glass to his ear is great!) and the whole arena feel. Knowing the real-life hurdles you had to deal with this week you've done excellently in the scale of the build you undertook. Well done and good luck with the last judge.

Another tough round to judge! I was hoping for a little bit more emphasis on the mechs, which Legopard gave. Though your build was more extensive, Legopard has my vote this match. His attention to detail and impressive mechs pushed it over the top for me.

The elevators to the battleground was a great Idea, well done, however my vote goes to your opponent, good luck.

Quoting Stuart Lucas Great scene here - the hangars and presidential lounge are fantastic! Love that table. For me the mechs are a bit blocky but that may be appropriate to the film (I haven't watched it) and I like all the hidden weapons etc. Good luck with the remaining judges!
Thanks Stu! Actually I built all of it with the movie in mind, but that might have been a misstep because I think only one judge has actually seen the movie....FML! LOL

OK, well I was having problems with MOCpages, so didn't get to finish my explanation, and just barely got it in the group in time. Not sure why my main pic looks so horrible. :( Anywho...you'll spot some wily characters found throughout the build. The center section comes out to reveal where the crews monitor the robot's features...including the captain. There are some dark pics of the bots I was trying to remove and replace with lighter ones, but wasn't able to in time. Anyways, I hope you enjoy the robot battle....even without words. Once it's fully judged, I will clean this up a bit further. Good luck to Legopard and all of the Elite 8!!!

Why you lucky SOP (son of a pirate), this is my dream category! Although building an actual arena would of probably pushed me past the breaking point. Nice to see the gang in action and best of luck buddy!

Quoting Patrick Devine This has excellent playability. The openness of the hangars, as well as that little meeting room is great. My sister would love to stage robot battles here. :D
Thanks Patrick, that is a very kind compliment, and is exactly what I was after. I'm very pleased you were able to note this even without my descriptions in there!

I thought your opponent had more detailed mechs, but your entry showcased a stadium with loads of nooks and crannies of playability, for that reason my vote is going to you. good luck with the other judges!

For some reason those bots pulling karate kicks cracks me up. They are beautifully built too. The set-up in the bunkers is cool and gives the build anticipation and scale. Great stuff.

Really impressive dio, full of details and life! Don't worry about the text, IMO the MOC speaks for itself. You did great with so much disturbance! I love the colors you used to enhance the white building, and your old-fashioned bots are just great! Good luck with our judges, man!

Quoting Topsy Creatori(StoveTop nomore!) Great bunker and bots! For some reason I find humor in that one lone tan grass plant you placed out on the combat field?! Best of Luck! :)
Lol actually there's a couple. There's a few pictures missing, and I'm not sure why everything came out so bad for me in the end, but what can ya do....It's a Mocpages thing. LOL

Like I said on Legopard's entry: both builds are awesome. You got a cool base/area/repair shop thing going on and your mech do have that old-school-80s style to them but I had to give my vote to Legopard. Best of luck with the other judges matey!
