MegaMOC 2012 finished and presented at the HispaLUG Expo 2012 in Barcelona.
About this creation
Here are some photos and details of the finally finished MegaMOC. These first pictures are from a test-setup in my basement, one week before packing everything into small boxes.
If you like what you see, please consider leaving a "smiling face" rating...

The Coca-Cola delivery guy almost having an accident because of some... distraction...
(This scene was emphasized more at the Expo);

Another view of the busy main street;

Children going to school;

View to the town hall;

Still life;

The Delorean almost hidden between a big tree and a billboard with Marylin Monroe advertising some perfume;

A samll park in front of the diner; (This scene was changed to something funny at the expo...)

As we are close to X-mas anyway;

Some guests arriving at the City Hotel;

Scorpions and Greasers;

Honest Al´s Used cars sale;

Detail at the cinema roof;

The combined train-and-bus Greyhound station is pure fantasy;

*** Photos from the HispaLUG Expo 2012 ***
Everything was taken apart and carefully put into cardboard boxes, and transported some 600km by car, to Barcelona (Granollers), where it was again put together in less than 4 hours. The last minifig was placed just as the doors opened to the public. (Many expositors were a lot worse off than me...)

At the exhibit I had the opportunity to take some photos of the "back-side" of some of the buildings. (Things the visitors normally dont see...)

I dont have many photos of the train;

Disclaimer; This nice train is basically a rip-off of Aleksander Steins 7-wide NYC M-497.
Mine is 8-wide, but only a few studs longer.
This train actually existed(!) It´s slightly anachronic to the whole diorama, as it was made in 1966, but its fantastic futuristic look makes it perfect for the various Googie-style buildings I have in the diorama.
In real life it reached almost 300km/h, which is a record that still stands in the USA, for passenger transport on rails!
I finally got the opportunity to take a photo of my mini-fig scale VW camper van next to its bigger Lego set #10220 sibling;

A study of "bluish" Lego;
Top: Medium Blue
Middle: Maersk Blue
Bottom: Bright Cyan

Strange that Maersk is closer to Cyan than to medium blue...
My VERY patient wife;

Oldest daughter Patricia;

Youngest daughter Kristina controlling the train;

And finally yours truly;

*** Technical Data ***
The diorama is 12 baseaplates (32x32) long.
The covered corners meassure 0,5m each, covering the curved tracks for the train.
=> 408cm long.
Depth is 3 baseplates + 1/2 baseplate for the train.
The train track is a simple circle. No points used.
There are 24 cars, trucks and busses distributed on the layout. They have all been presented individually here on MOCpages.
There is only one train. Originally I had planned to also make a longer freight-train, drawn by an impressive Mikado class steamer. Alas, time and pieces ran out for that project. Oh well, maybe I can build one later.
There are a total of 94 minifigs distributed around the diorama.
The blue-sky background is re-used from the "Royville" MegaMOC 2011 project. There is still room for expansion, as the backdrop will span 13 baseplates total!
The project has taken 6 months to build, at a relaxed pace.
It takes 4 hours to set up and 2 hours to take down. (not relaxed ;-) )
Packed down I can fit everyhting into my Volvo V40 with the plastic-bubble on the roof and 4 persons inside! (persons inside the CAR, not the plastic-bubble...)
The whole thing is still stored intact in my basement, maybe awaiting a further opportunity next year¿?
*** End ***
Thanks for watching, rating and commenting! ;-)
This MOC made "Across MOCpages" on the 4th of December with 71 smilies. It was there until the 11th and exited with 88 smilies. Thanks to everybody! ;-)

Great layout, and very realistic. One question: when you make the buildings, do you improvise, or do you design based on a real building? Anyways, great creation, hope to see more! |

Henrick, thanks for the response! I am thinking very seriously of puting together a super display for a big show in the northwest in the fall. I am debating on whether or not to use it for a year or two, or recycle it. If I kept it, that would mean I could put a little more into the actual display like the table and the background. Its a tough choice. Thanks for the feedback! Chris |

Henrick, a quick question: At these bigger shows, do you guys take the same MOC's every year, or do you break them down and do something new every year, or a combo of both? Chris |

What a great build. Having seen it live gives even a better look at the details you put into it (what a great idea to get the benches more realistic). Hope your next Mega MOC can top this. |

quite a project! it has many layers of depth, heck, 50 s, batman s car of the period,+ the delorean from back to the future, it scores everywhere for me, the train was a pleasant surprise, especially based on a real one... it s superb! as a city builder myself, only one question comes to mind... why did you cover the street parkings? |

Hendrik, that´s a wonderful diorama that really made my morning! I love all the fantastic details and the lively atmosphere of a time which stood for happiness in America. It was an optimistic, sometimes naive time, in which the craziest things had been invented - just like that thrust-powered train... I had a great pleasure looking at the iconically styled vehicles and the amazing street scenes. What a display! That really makes me want to build myself instantly...
Thanks for sharing your great pics. Best regards, Steffen |

Thanks a lot for the nice comments, guys! I am glad that you had the time to comment here too, although almost everything you see here has already been presented individually.
I will try to take some more photos of the train. As for the next project, I dont really know. I might invest in a Mindstorms set... |

THis is not only MOC of the year worthy, personally, Henrick, considering how "rigged" that award ceremony can be, I put something like this in a league of it's own. Seriously, from one builder to another, this is outstanding, hats off to you for the effort and the execution. Simply OUTSTANDING! Z |
