Porsche 917K
The Porsche 917K (1970 & 1971 tech spec)
About this creation
11/01/13: NEW PICS, UPDATED MOC.

The car is now full tiled, engine cover and front end have been redesigned, chassis mid section totally reworked. This is the final version.

UPDATE: 1971 specs, White Martini Racing

Slightly improved rear suspensions, including anti-rollbar.

Front suspension

Here is the mighty Porsche 917, ruler of endurance racing from 1969 to 1971.
This version is the 917 "Kurtzheck"

The white is 1970 specs (with 1969 front fins, cause i find them really cool). The mexican flag on right door is a tribute to one of the great driver who raced the car: Pedro Rodriguez.

The "martini racing" is the 1971 one, with shark fins. This one has slightly improved rear suspension (basically an anti roll-bar for frame stiffening has been implanted.

To conclude, the white "N°1" 71 specs is the final version, i dont' think it will evolve a lot now.

- 1/8 scale
- Technic Flat 12 engine
- independant suspensions
- Steering
- Multitubular technic frame faithful to the original one.

Okay, now the pics are revised you get an extra like. As I can now see the car good and the details, this got to be one of the best LEGOŽ-cars ever. So amazing build quality, love it!

Quoting Loek Marcus You are very talented! Yeah, the photography could be a bit better, but from what visible I can see this is a beauty! I wanted to let you know that white paper could do, but I think this car will not fit on tha unless you use A0/A1 paper :D And maybe find a light background and shine a loght on the car. But other than that, sure a 10 out of 10!
Thanks Loek. Indeed, my pics are not of a "top quality", my camera is a little bit old and the lighting is not good. The car slightly evolves every day, still in 71 "shark fins" config. It will soon be completely studless. A lot of new (and i hope better) pics soon, alongside the 908LH "sister" project.

Quoting Pablo Lopez WOW! That's such an awesome piece of work! Would it be much of a problem to upload a video of it? I know you made lots of pics and everything can be seen, but, you know, a video is better than 1000 images..
Thanks a lot Pablo. I plan a video and building instructions. For now, the design has been improved (new pics to come soon) and i work on another Porsche endurance racer: the 908LH.

Quoting Nick Barrett Back for a second look. This really is amazing - glad I can see it a little better now to appreciate the effort that's gone in to make it look so perfect.
Thanks Nick. I've worked approximatively 100 hours on it using technical drawings of the real thing. On a lego parts point of view, the whole car is a mix of old fashioned parts and modern technic parts as seen in the last lego supercar 8070 (suspensions arms, cv joints but used in a different way than the way they have to be...i use gen2 differential (4 studs width) whereas these cv joints are aimed to be used with gen3 differntial (3 studs width). At the end, it works perfectly!

What a beast! Loads of Technic features and it looks great too (really nice idea using the old classic space cockpits for headlights). Needs better pictures though! 9/10 (only lost one for the pics) - amazing job : )

Fantastic build. Some very good techniques and a great shape to the body. Some day light photos would better show off this excellent build. This would make a great addition to the Classic Race Team group. I will send you an invite.

Awesome Porsche! I like that you actually build the spaceframe (and then cramed it with goodies)! The engine is really good too, and those headlights with the Classic Space windscreens. All in all a properly good build. Maybe some better photos, though.
