Very rare are the MOCs which use a canister part, and even more the ones which use it as head! You maybe will get tired of this kind of comment, but you have to agree that the special part of this MOC is the head. The rest of him is great built, I specially love the legs. However the hands may be a bit small, although it's not your fault: there aren't parts of that size xD Again, great job, my dear, specially in all the head.
Thank you Miranda. <3 I know, I hardly ever see canister parts used. I wish I hadn't tossed all mine. Who know's what else I woulda managed. This is is actually my second MOC to use the Metru canister lids. The first being Hyderbawl(dunno if I've uploaded him here). From the first time I saw big daddy, I instantly knew that that lid would be perfect for his head. It was just a matter of getting the portholes incorporated some how. His proportions in the torso and the roll cage is off a bit, the torso needs to be bulkier and the roll cage a bit smaller on top, but I ran out of the flexy axles in the right length. By the time I realized he wasn't bulky enough, he was just about done, and I just wanted to finish him, so I settled for him being somewhat less bulky. I agree the hand is too small. I need to give him his fourth finger to ease that a little bit. |

Wicked, wicked good. So many NPU's all over. I'm with Gale. This thing REALLY captures my memories of first encounters with these lumbering, clunking and groaning menaces, back in the day. Among my faves; the bar-grid over the cannister cap, the knobby tires as calves, the tri-reg tires as right bicep covering, the whole thing is a stunning tribute to this Rapture brute. 5/5! Well-earned ;) Cheers!
Thank you very much for your kind words. The tires were the only way I was gonna get the rounded look of the diving suit limbs. I didn't go with tires all the way down the limbs because that would have just been boring. I'm glad he brings back those memories and that you could instantly recognize him as Big Daddy, that's obviously the goal of a MOC like this. :D |

I stand brutally and utterly amazed. The details, oh so fantastic. The parts usage; the inika chest armor as shoulder armor, the canister lid, the Piraka feet, I could go on and on. I love the look it has to it. Having never seen the game bioshock, I have no reference by which to say you have missed some mark, so this is truly perfect in my eyes. I am in love with those feet and the legs I may well mention too. Truly a fantastic job. I will now favorite you, as it is definitely well earned here. And while I'm at it might I ask a question? Why is it that I've found myself on your favorites list? I am by no means arguing, I merely wish to know why, for I see myself as having brought nothing to the table, and yet I have brought home a feast.
Hi Gale.:D I'm glad you like him so much. You should compare mine to the original though. Here check out this Video http://youtu.be/5vzu1SLLJ18"> and http://youtu.be/isfR0k9hJd0 this one as well to really compare them. These are primarily what I used to shape my Big Daddy MOC.
Thanks for the faves or watches or what ever its called here on MOCpages. I added you because simply put, I like your MOCs. You should come over to DA and share your MOCs there, join my group and be a part of the community there as well. :D I'm way more active there, everything gets posted there first, then I spread out to Flickr and then here. Hehe Sorry MP MOCers you're last on my list. ^^; |

Like I said on Flickr great work I do agree with chronos the arms could be a bit thicker but I think the rest is great. Now you have to make a little sister, or better yet a boy of silence from bioshock infinate.
I responded to that. I already kinda pushed the limit of what the joints could handle. Anymore weight and I don't think I would have been able to pose his arm at all. Thanks Banjax Sorry, but I think this will be the only bioshock MOC from me. I'm not even sure how I'd tackle a little sister short of a ton of system parts(which I don't have), and I don't even know what a boy of silence is. I've not played any of the games. I just liked BD and didn't see any good MOCs of him, so I felt I had to take a swing at it. |

Love the rollcage and head. Legs aren't bad, but they don't go well with the rest of the MOC. Perhaps I'm just very nitpicky but to me, the lack of bulkiness is more of a problem than you might think (especially around the drill- the half of it flares out a bit, then there's nothing behind it, just a smallish arm). Not the best Big Daddy rendition I've seen, but very cool nonetheless. :D
I'm going to have to strongly disagree with you there about the "best rendition" thing. Show me a better one then. I looked, I only saw one bionicle one and a bunch of system attempts, all of which didn't do this awesome character any justice. Now lets think about this for a second, if I bulked up that arm then I've got to add additional support just so he can hold it up, well then there goes all the aesthetics for that side of the arm. If you look at character models for the BD(which I did extensively) The arms are exactly the same till the right arm cuts off for the drill. There aren't a whole lot of options in lego to make this drill work, even less than what I had. I had to keep things simpler and light so that his arm wouldn't flop all over the place.
As for bulkiness elsewhere, yeah he needs to have a bulkier torso, mostly in the back. Once his torso is bulked up that'll put the legs into proportion with the rest of him. The hand is too small, I need to add a 4th finger.

This is totally awesome cool! Don't care too much about the details, this IS a BD. Head and guard. legs, feet and arms give a perfect impression of the game-charakter, bulky or not. Great job. |
