Thank you David & David for putting on such a wonderful contest. I've been told today is my last day of net connection so I'm posting just in time! Hope you guys enjoy, I just loved having an excuse to do something like this...
After almost one whole month without web connection, I was eager to come back and look for the results: and guess what?! I knew it!!! It was so obvious!! You caught so well the CS spirit, your pics were so full of nostalgia. I bow to you, Parrington. You built a CS Pocket gold set. This first price is more than deserved. Bravo!!
Hehe, wow! I actually won something :DDD Thanks guys so much for putting on one of the funnest contests ever on these pages. It has brought back people like Crimso and allowed us to see different styles coming from very well known moccers who have been given the excuse to build something simple and fun. Thanks everyone for competing, and thanks everyone for making this little cs rover that could, a big hit. Cheers all! Long live classic space!
We've got a winner! Congratulations! When I saw this one the first time I knew it would be one of the winners :-)) It looks so much like Classic Space and a lot of fun to play with. A well deserved winner!
A solid looking tractor & trailer, complete with stabilising legs, tracking dish and fuel pump. The space scooter looks fast, with the engines underneath and manoeuvring thrusters. All very functional. 9 I like how there are lots of shapes and textures in the main build. It sticks to the CS grey vehicle colour scheme but doesn’t look boring. A great transporter, solidly built, with lots of play options for the first alternative. The second alternative is very interesting. A buggy, a space scooter, a robot and what is that tower for? Excellent! 10 So much to do with this set. Drive the transporter around your moonbase. Fuel & launch the ship. Detach the tractor unit to drive around and track the spaceship. Everything looks robust too. 9 This reminds me of one of the later kits in the CS range but I like how this sticks to the original CS grey scheme. I also like how nearly all of the parts are from the CS era. I think Lego could have sold a lot of this kit! 9 Total score 37. Many congratulations! If this had been available as a set in 1979, the seven year old me would have been saving my pocket money as hard as I could to buy it.
Design: This is as near to perfect design as you get. All the classic pieces are used with care and precision. We have a clear purpose, great radar dish, detachable sections, launch pads and a great little spaceship to boot.
Piece Selection: All of the alternatives are different from the original and close to being as good. The second could almost be the main model and has a unique set of play options in its own right.
Playability: Dropped one mark here, only for not nailing a truly original play feature. Still it has it all going on – as a child (or perhaps even an adult) I would have got so many play hours out of this.
CS Factor: It is CS space, not only as it should be, but up there with the best sets from 78-80. You had me shedding a tear of nostalgia.
G'day gang! I am happily stunned at the support this fun cs build has been bestowed. Having read through all your comments I must thank you all kindly; it seems there are more nostalgics out there than we generally realise. Perhaps there is hope for us all yet :)
flash news! I have my 2nd ship for the space pirate ship project inspired by you....I add to my 'heath' classic pirate ship a.....super star destroyer, lol, space is definitively not going to get safer! lol, can I count on your technical support?
Good old classic space! My Grandparents have a funky red box of classic space and castle pieces that I dig through almost every time I visit. Some of my earliest Lego memories involve this stuff! Great build Mr. Levens!
That is exactly how I consider this contest (and how I did my entry). Beautiful job, Parrington, and some original ideas with common parts. Really! The main pic made me shivering: I had the feeling to be in front of an old 80's box. Your pics are -as usual- stunning. The best entry of this contest so far...
Oh man, that's tough competition, it's so cool! The main model is already cool, but your alternatives are almost equally awesome. Great job! :-)) P.S.: I hope I'll finish my one with real bricks next week...
By far The best entry yet !!! This is exactly the kind of MOC called by this contest, and all the models are excellent (the big tower is very original and cool, the others screams Classic Space at its best) - Congrats on this awesome entry (and also the marvellous presentation) and I hope you won't stay too long away from the internet mate :-D
