A vignette of Njörðr's altar. He is the Norse god of seas and wealth.
About this creation
*Warning: Long story ahead - you don't have to read it, but it was my attempt at explaining the backstory behind the MOC. Come on, I needed to spice things up a bit.
Long ago, in times of old - when the world was thriving in the boom of new civilization, there lived the Vikings, seafarers of the north. The Vikings were but daring Norsemen; explorers, merchants, and brave warriors: not pirates, nor plunderers. Yet, inevitably as it was, there were also those who drove themselves to piracy - those who lusted after wealth and riches.
Hiding beneath the veil of his Viking name, a man named Heidrun led a crew of bloodthirsty barbarians across the Scandinavian Sea in search of gold. The Viking Lord, he called himself. The northern terror, the king of Vikings, the messenger of the gods. Laying waste to villages and unleashing fire behind them, Heidrun and his crew traveled a path of destruction.
No man, woman, or child was spared.
When news of the massacres reached the great city of Aldleon, discussions ran rampant. Yet with all the urgency surging through the kingdom, the King dismissed the threat.
"We have ten thousand fighting men and soldiers. We have blades of steel and armors of iron. To fear is to crumble. The barbarians will die before our walls."
A month later, Heidrun arrived with a fleet of Drakkar longships filled with pirates, slaves and killers, reducing the noble city of Aldleon to mountains of blackened rubble. The Great Burning, it was called. The fires could be seen across the sea from Constantinople as they tore the night sky into shreds of red and orange and white.
With no one to stand against him, Heidrun's bloody legacy trailed on.
About the creation:
Before preparing to cross the Great Sea of the Atlantic, Heidrun pays respect to Njörðr, god of seas, lord of wealth, at his altar.
Footsteps echo behind him. Fumbling for his blade, Heidrun turns and grins. It is a Knight of Aldleon.
