At approximately 1850 hrs, Oakwood was dispatched to a smell of smoke in an apartment building on the northwest side of town. Dispatch upgraded the alarm with companies en route due to multiple calls.
Engine 82 reported on scene with smoke from the 2nd and 3rd floors with people in the windows on both floors. Eighty-twos went to work, securing their own water and stretching a line up the center stairwell, while Snorkel 84 started throwing ground ladders and plucked 2 civilians out of the building. The fire was on the 3rd floor. Engine 92 arrived and stretched a second line from the wye in the stairwell. Quint 417 arrived and was assigned vertical vent.
Engine 11 was assigned to RIT with Battalion 7. Battalion 8 was in command. Tower 7 was special called and conducted the primary search. Both victims were treated on the scene for minor smoke inhalation. The fire apartment was empty at the time. The fire appears to have started in the dining room.
