Hero Factory Brain Attack Review #3: Bulk
Make way for Bulk, the third Brain Attack wave one set to be reviewed! He is set #44004, and has 48 pieces!
About this creation
Now, lets see what splendours are hidden in this oddly shaped placky bag:

We have one narrow torso piece,
two long lower limb pieces,
two silver feet,
two orange hands,
two second shortest lower limb pieces,
one trans medium green skull (in a new mold)
and four regular upper limb pieces in grey.

For armour, we have a new chest armour mold,
three trans orange sise three armour pieces,
two gunmetal grey sise four armour pieces,
only one trans orange sise 5 armour pieces,
one silver shoulder armour piece,
Bulk's new mask
and a trans orange visor.

Other stuff includes a gunmetal grey shield piece,
a drill piece
and a bunch of tiny little technic pieces (Not gonna name 'em, but don't think they're not important :P)

Now let's look at the guy who's made up out of these little pieces;

Here we go. Hrm...

The first thing I wanna talk about is the colour scheme. I'm happy for the silver and trans orange, because that's what Bulk has always been. The opaque orange... I don't think that it's perfect, and It's not really something I'd include if I was designing him, but it still makes sense, and It doesn't mess up the colour scheme too much. The gunmetal grey, in my opinion, should have been left out. In general, Bulk, with the silver and orange, has always been a very bright looking character. The gunmetal grey just spoils it, in my eyes.

While we are on the subject of colour, I'd like to point out that Bulk has green eyes, despite the fact that he has trans orange all over his body. I'd also like to point out how that makes no sense whatsoever. And I would also like to point out that it messes up the feel for this guy, if you have no objections.

Now, the head is interesting. I kind of like it with the visor down. If you ignore the face inside, his head looks pretty awesome. It reminds me of a sci fi army kind of person, like it could be a character from Halo or something. In fact, although I have no knowledge of Halo, I can just imagine this guy looking pretty nice with the Halo logo next to him. I don't know, what are your thoughts? I would like to hear them.

The face underneath tells a completely different story, however. I kind of think Transformers G1 when I see this guy, with some vague similarity to Megatron. (G1, of cause, not the Hollywood version) I guess because of this, I kind of see it as a villain's mask, although it doesn't seem very evil or scary. Still, I'm not sure about the facial expression, it's not really a mid-battle kind of face. It's more like a ("BULK, LOOK OUT!!" "huh?" Splat!) kind of face. Like I said before, the green in his eyes and mouth ruins the colour scheme a little. Would have been much better if it was just released in trans orange.

One of the biggest problems with bulk (as most people have already stated) is that he doesn't look all that powerful. Thin is not a problem, because in a way, if all the armour is packed really tightly together, it would make him look really heavy. But of cause, that will only work if he has a lot of armour, which he doesn't. If they added two shoulder pieces instead of one, and added armour to his forearms, then that would have been better.

Okay, so the last thing I'm going to talk about is the drill. It's nice that Lego have included a spinning action to this guy, because it's one of those things that young children can play with for hours and hours. I see that Lego are going down this rute of free moving actions, and I think it's a good idea. However, the end of the drill looks a little unfinished; some armour there would be better. The flick-fire missile was a bit useless. Lego love their flick-fire missiles, and will use them every chance they get. There's nothing wrong with that, but I don't think that Bulk should have one. Surely, a drill is effective enough. It doesn't need a little missile attached to it.

That's all, folks! I'm going to rate this set in three different catogories; Toy value (how good it is to play with and pose ect.), Design Value (The design, including the colour scheme and how it was built) and Moccist Value (The amount of good pieces).
Here are Bulk's results;

Toy Value: 4/5

Design Value: 2/5

Moccist Value: 1/5

Overall Value: 7/15

See ya next time with Furno XL!

Quoting Ben Cossy I never liked that mask :P Still he's great for parts, my favourite is his silver shoulder armour piece :D Great review ;)

Quoting Parakitor (formerly known as Gilkah) Good review. I personally like the face. Call me strange. It's kind of like he's sneering at the enemy, or he's struggling in a tough battle. I think it works for Bulk. The green head...I might have to agree with you on. My only concern is that if it were trans-neon orange underneath, wouldn't he just look so monochrome? When you consider that Brain Attack Wave 1 had the options of trans-neon yellow-green or trans-green I think they made the right choice. (I still can't believe they don't have the new heads in orange yet. Why not?)
Thanks for the comment. I can understand that some people like the mask, and I do not hold anything against them, it just doesn't seem to work for me personally. looking back on the trans green skull, I think it would be better if there was no trans-red in the vizor and body. I think those two colours clash a little. I'm also annoyed at the lack of trans orange skull. It would have worked for Bruizer and Pyrox, the two fire-based characters (excluding Furno, who has always worked with the yellowey-green skull.) But again, thanks for leaving your opinion :)

Quoting Rennoc ~ Great review! I think the head is just awful. Bionicle had different coloured heads for villians and toa, and sometimes even more variety amongst the toa. The mouth ruins it, and he looks like he has a nose. Don't even get me started on the drill...
Ha, yes, this set is just an all round "meh". Thanks for the comment!

Quoting Legobob [DragonMaster627] But, they do not stand out as much, yes? They also seem very dull to me. A nice, sharp change in colour scheme is good. Remember, Bionicle figures' eyes always stood out, because they were (ALMOST) never part of the colour scheme. And it looked good, don't you think? I think so. I also think that Lego should make the heads completely different colour to the colours scheme; excluding the back of the figure and the "mouth" that is sometimes there, the change looks good. Just my opinion :)
Fair enough. How about we agree to disagree? :P

Quoting Legobob [DragonMaster627] Actually, I would like to object on the subject of the eyes... without the visor there, then yes, by all means trans-orange would be best. But, because he has the visor, trans-orange eyes would not be visible through the visor very well, would they? I think that the green looks good. But if you think it looks bad from the back, I agree. :)
Well, yes, I guess your right, but Breez's eyes are the same colour as her Visor, and you can see her eyes just fine. Thanks for the comment, though. :)

Quoting Legobob [DragonMaster627] Nice review wert! Personally, I'm buying this set to upgrade the Breakout Wave 2 Bulk, and to use some of his other parts. I agree with you on the face; it looks VERY silly. ;)
Yes, that would be a good idea. Thanks for the comment!
