Welcome everyone! Here is my Round Two entry to the MELO. I am in the Orthanc bracket, and my opponent is Kyle Ransom. It's an honor to have made it here, and I hope I will be able to stay around till round three. Anywho, let's get on with the build! Oh, but please keep in mind that the MOC is based on the books, and not on the movies.
About this creation
Here's a link to Kyle Ransom's entry, and here's a link to the MELO homepage.
Category: A shortcut to mushrooms
Frodo and Sam are on the road, Merry and Pippin are stealing from farmer Maggot, and rumors of ominous riders in black plague the countryside. Build us the beginning of the journey!

OK, this one's just another shot of the overall build. Massive, isn't it? ;)

A shot of a section of the path.

A picture of the wagon.

Not quite sure what this is, but at least it gives you a view of the pony.

Uh-oh, looks like Grip, Fang, and Wolf are after a rabbit! I discovered the technique for the bush that the black one is jumping through on my own, not sure if it has been done before.

The crops.

The livestock. Same case with the top part of the treasure chest serving as a food trough as with the bush, not sure if it has been done before.

The trees.

Another view. Hey, what's that Nazgul doing there?

A view of the house.

And now, the interior. Well, you didn't think I was going to build Farmer Maggot's house without Farmer Maggot, did you?

Here the hobbits and the farmer discuss events whilst awaiting for the meal.

The farmer's wife prepares the meal.

And here is the bedroom/study. There is more detail than meets the eye here, but the light-blocking roof prevented me from getting a good picture.

And to close things up, a blurry shot of Farmer Maggot and his wife.

Nice build! The lighting is a little off but I don't mind. I like the dogs and the food trough technique! Keep up the good work! |

Nice rendition of Farmer Maggot's! I love the cobbled technique on the street and the path up to the house. The troughs are very clever too. And I might borrow the bush technique, if that's OK. =P Keep up the good work! :) |

This is a great MOC. I've only read the books as well, so this pretty much goes with what I thought it would look like. The only problem I have is that you used the bed from the medieval village without credit.
I do? I thought that looked familar when I got it out of my lego bins XD. Thanks! |

The whole thing looks really nice! The house looks very good, as do the trees, but strangely enough, I think my favorite part of this would be the road! It just looks very good somehow, nice job! |

Very nice idea! You're one of the first people to create Farmer Maggot's farm. The build is very nice, but I vote for your opponent, because his MOC was one of the best entries in my opinion. Good luck with the other judges! |

This isn't bad, but a little simple. Your opponent will receive my vote.

*physically lifts jaw* This is amazing! I love that you each did a different take on this scene; book and film. I'm SO glad I'm not judging these as they each have so much to offer. Your pathways are incredible! I've seen a lot of techniques for paths and this one is perfect. A lot of great details here. Great job and good luck!
Thanks a lot Ryan! Glad that you like it so much. |
