MELO Round Two: John Daniels vs. Brick Tales
About this creation
Bracket - Orthanc
Middle Earth LEGO® Olympics
Category - The Mirror of Galadriel
Don't expect a reflection. "The mirror shows many things, things that are, things that were, and some things that have not yet come to pass." Be creative! "What will WE see?"
My worthy opponent Brick Tales entry (Awesome job Brick Tales!)

Now that all of that other stuff is out of the way - I would like to wish Brick Tales luck, and I would like to thank Ian and all of the other judges for running this contest!

Instead of building what the Mirror shows I decided to build the scene where Frodo is looking into the mirror. I have (somewhat) followed the movies portrayal of this scene.

The eye of Sauron

And here is an overall shot of the MOC.

Fourth wall;

Well this was fun! I followed the advice from my friends here on the pages and on Flickr and added more to the tree trunks.

A word of caution, to those who attempt a round base like I did, if a section of the circle lets go the whole thing uncoils like a giant spring (flinging bricks everywhere!)

Thanks for viewing! I would appreciate likes and comments, Thanks!

--John

Impressive. The round base is too cool, and I love the way you patterned the planks on the wooden landing. Good stuff.

Quoting A M I happened across your creations on my MOCpages travels and found something very interesting: in your MELO Round 1 build, people commented saying that your tree trunks were a little bland. You replied by saying that you would try to fix that in your next build with trees, and lo and behold, you did. That is, in my opinion, a mark of a great builder: that he or she is willing to accept advice from others. Well done!
I'm truly speechless... all I can say is thank you! --John

While your entry was a solid build, you took the approach to this category that I expected. Your opponent on the other hand had a great interpretation of the category and executed it very well. Sorry, your opponent received my vote.

Quoting Brick Tales Hey John, Excellent entry! I love the building in the round and how the stream even extends into the round base - great attention to detail on that. Love the eye of Sauron! Vegetation is great all around - the brown tree is my favorite. I'm happy to be up against such a worthy opponent. Best of luck! Bruce
Thanks, Bruce! The whole idea for adding the stream came from a lack of light blueish gray 1x2's, so the stream solved that. Thank you I felt that I had to add the Eye of Sauron! Yes, I am also glad to be up against such a worthy and communicative opponent. Best of luck to you as well. Now to go comment on your entry. --John
