2013 SMT ER: The Deceiving Light Returns
About this creation
Kuragari, the notorious drachenian who took control of Goldoa, the city of shadows which was the location of the shadow temple. When his family was killed by a pair of shades, strange shadow creatures, he began hating his own powers over light, which he considered useless due to being unable to defend his family. Setting a target to change his element into shadow, his body's golden features turned black and caused a severe inbalance on the planet of Phaisea, otherwise known as Phais Magna. Announcing his new name, he spread horror across the lands, eventually stopping at Goldoa, capturing the city.

Born on the same day as Monarth, originally named as Kura, Kura's appearance was notably similar to Monarth's however in opposite colors. Growing a small part of his childhood together with Monarth under the watch of a council that maintained balance between the realms of light and shadow, the destinies of the two seemed bonded. They were like twins, yet completely different, but still friends. Kura was the more open, social and careful personality, while Monarth seemed reserved, shy, but curious.

Monarth and Kura were considered to be destined to greatness and were kept under the eyes of the council to be trained from the beginning to control their powers. However some of the council's members were concerned by how their powers would be used in the end. One of these members was Monarth's father, who secretly took Monarth away and began living on a distant mountainside to grow him with discipline and kindness. The same happened to Kura, who was taken away by a partner in Monarth's father's plan. Some time passed, Monarth and Kura were never mentioned again, the council disappeared along with Monarth's father. Nothing was left to even hint of the existence of Kura and Monarth, not even the memories of the two, which faded away and became mere dreams.

Growing separately, the martial arts training of Kuragari and Monarth came out to be very different. Monarth's fighting style relies on speed and powerful blows, while at the same time Kuragari's concentrates on defensive skills and counterattacks. Their elements are opposite aswell, light and shadow. However their meaning is very different in the elemental universe. The thing is that drachenians have the ability to absorb their element, but not give it away. So, Kuragari's most dangerous ability is the absorbtion of light, which can corrupt his target and make them controllable on a limited scale. This is the reason it was easy for him to capture the city of Goldoa.

Kuragari's signature weapons are his foldable wrist blades with which he can make quick strikes. When not folded out, they guard his arms.

One of the more interesting physiological traits of Kuragari are his 'wings', the extensions on his back. They do not grant flight, but are completely under Kuragari's control and help him maintain a better balance while fighting and moving, and sometimes even deal attacks.

Although both Monarth and Kuragari meditate, they do so for different purposes. While Monarth focuses to control his powers and remain calm, Kuragari's meditation is a strange kind, which amplifies his rage and determination, which he uses to motivate himself to go after his goals.

*cracks knuckles* "Who's next?"

Phew, sorry for the poor-ish picture quality. It was getting dark so the pictures didn't end up too well and I had to rely a lot on photo editing tools to make them brighter. I didn't really dare to wait for another day, 'cause school keeps me busy.

Either way, I had planned to build this guy for a long time and the Self Moc-off Tournament came out to be a good place to execute the plan. Kuragari's earlier form had been laying on my shelf for almost 2 years. Felt pretty good to wipe off the dust and almost completely rebuild him in mere 3 hours.

Kuragari was originally designed to look like an opposite Monarth, so I didn't want to create anything new for the contest, but bring back an old character.

Also, about his species... While I've been building drachenians for a long time, only around recently have I been making profiles for the species as a whole and for each type separately. I haven't made profiles for all types yet, but I'll be adding more sooner or later, when my time and inspiration allows. If you happen to be interested to read about them, go see them here.

Anyway, thanks for watching and please rate and comment =]

Looks awsome dude, but the look of him has more of mecha feel than a bionicle feel for me. Oh well, good luck to you!

I really like how this guy went together. I would have said he was pretty much perfect. However I do wish his feet were a bit more complex. Other than that, this guy's awesome!

Wow, that is awesome. The MOC is great and has some beautiful designs on it, but the story takes the cake for me. Well done, and good luck! :)
