Aerial Tower 55 is a 1989 E-One 135 foot rearmount aerial, quartered at Station 55 which is just outside of historic downtown Riverwoods. Currently the tallest aerial in all of River County (and most of Lego Metro), the Aerial Tower responds to all of River County on any reported hi-rise fire, in addition to covering the hi-rises in and around downtown Riverwoods. It has also come in handy on several fires in Station 54's and 91's districts because of its long horizontal reach. There are numerous houses in those areas with very deep setbacks where the terrain is not conducive to ground ladders. The truck had mansaver bars added to the jumpseat area in 1995. And in 2007 the truck was sent for a full refurbishment. The hydraulic and warning systems, transmission and motor were overhauled. New LED lights were added. The mansavers were removed and half-doors were added to the jumpseat area. A new automatic aid agreement was forged with Jakeland FD, which has the Aerial Tower responding on any reported hi-rise fire in the Jakeland area. This will increase the runs, and keep the Station 55 firefighters a little busier.
