MELO R3: Matthew Oh Vs. Grant Davis
About this creation
Bracket: Orthanc

Link: The Middle Earth Lego Olympics, and my opponent Grant Davis! Good luck to you!

Grant Davis vs. Matthew Oh

Category: The King of the Golden Hall
The kingdom of Rohan is deteriorating. With Saruman's pillaging, Wormtongue's poisonous words, and virtually a zombie on the throne, hope is all but gone. Use your bricks to show us the rustic beauty of Edoras and the events therein.

I had to quickly buy a bricklink order for the roof, but luckily it arrived in time. I had to order 345 tan slopes, and it wasn't enough!!!! Isn't that nuts! I have no clue what I am going to do with them after this round, whether I win or lose. I also heard that my opponent had to order too...this will be an interesting round.

My torch design that I came up with, and am very proud of.

I tried to create a horse, but as you can see, it didn't turn out so well....it also caved in many, many, many times, making me spend many long hours putting it back together! That was extremely annoying, and a waste of time. :D

Aragorn and Gimli PLACING their weapons against the wall, as described in the book.

A rather artistic shot.

The roof comes off for playability!

The interior

Some nobles watching in horror and confusion.

The right wall also opens up for even more playability!

Gimli standing over Wormtongue, making sure he doesn't move as Theoden changes. I used three capes for King Theoden, to make it look more robe-like. I think it turned out rather well! Something else for the judges to notice. :D He is not sitting on any of the capes, so they are perfectly fine! I would never intentionally ruin capes.

The main picture again.

Thanks for viewing, and good luck to you Grant!

C&C Appreciated!

Soli Deo Gloria!
-Matthew-

Incredible! Even now I look back at this, going, "How does one create such a fantastic structure like this," haha. Also, what did you use to color Gandalf's hair? Brush, airbrush, etc.?

Where did you get that white hair??? Did you paint it or did they finally make one I don't know about?? O.o

Quoting A M Excellent work on the interior, there's some excellent colors and techniques there! The roof was well worth your order, too. Great coloring there as well (you really captured the "rustic" part of the category... nice!). And the torch design is inspired! Great job and good luck!

Thanks Justin Knelsen! Actually, it was painted by either Nathan, my brother, or Christopher Baldacci for Nathan. I know, non purist. :( I can't wait until they do make a white hair though!

Simply stunning work Matthew! The Wormtongue is flawless as well as everything else except perhaps the horse on the roof =) Other than that this is a truly fantastic build and I hope you move on although the competition is really difficult.
