Tolus, Waterlord
Wise, calm and patient, Tolus was one of the oldest and most powerful beings in the Matoran Universe.
About this creation
Name: Tolus
Gender: Male
Race/Species: Ehlyus
Occupation: Battle Leader, Korrothean Lord of Water
Title(s): Ga-Nui, Stormlord, Tolus Rockbreaker
Prevailing Element: Water
Alignment: True Neutral
Affiliation: Mata-Nui, Korrothis
Tool(s): Ceremonial Coral Armour, Staff of Office, Breathing Device
Status: Deceased
MOC Status: Assembled

When Mata-Nui formed the Council of the Weave it was Toa Helryx who was given the station of Waterlord, though she was unable to devote herself fully to the role, instead leaving to a life of subterfuge and secrecy. Tolus accepted the role in her stead, and remained Waterlord for many thousands of years to come.

Before taking on the mantle of Waterlord, Tolus commanded one of Barraki Ehlek's legions, which was made up of fifty members of his own species. Tolus was very cautious and patient with his troops and trained them well. Their specialty was in the boarding and takeover of naval vessels.

Like many Weavic beings, Tolus regarded all life as sacred, and therefore most of his operations were bloodless, crippling supply lines and disabling vessels, but leaving the crew unharmed. This approach and philosophy brought him into may confrontations with Amphibax.

When the Barraki began their conquest of the Matoran Universe, Tolus spoke out against them, and was exiled for it. Amphibax attacked Tolus' ship as he headed towards Metru Nui, destroying it and leaving him for dead. Injured and close to dying, Tolus drew upon the power of Water to heal himself just barely enough to make his way to the Great Temple of Ga Matru, whereupon he collapsed into a coma-like state.

The Great Temple took him in, and there he remained for six years. He became a healer and priest of Mata-Nui's teachings, though his sermons were often shadowed by scandal and rumour caused by the bloodthirty conquest of Ehlek's armies. Few matoran trusted him.

After six years, Tolus underwent a pilgrimage to the island of Korrothis. This was risky, because his exile meant that any members of the Leage were likely to kill him if they saw him, and Korrothis lay at the heart of the League's empire, an enclave of neutral ground surrounded by hostility. He swam through the violent currents of the open ocean, risking being eaten by Takea Sharks, braving punishing cold and exhaustion.

When he finally reached Korrothis, he met Helryx, who with but a touch of his mask read the entirety of of his past. Simply saying "You'll do", she handed Tolus her staff of office and left Korrothis the same day.

Tolus' ceremonial armour was made of coral and seaweed, on top of his own protodermis armour, which had turned silver with age. He wore a complicated air-breathing device which also functions to keep his wounds from Amphibax's attack stable. They cut deep and never fully healed. Because of them, Tolus always carried an unnerving watery cough and relied heavily on the support of his staff.

Tolus' palace was built under the Great Bay of Korrothis, around which a majestic port was built from white stone. Most new and existing toa of water or acid came to him for training at some point in their lives, and some remained as his six Archons - specialist toa who served him.

Age and old wounds eventually claimed, Tolus' life. On a reformed Spherus Magna, he sensed his end coming, and accepted it. His final act as Ga-Nui was a rallying and powerful speech in the city of Tajun, before he passed away in his sleep the same night. It is said that that the skies of Tajun wept from the time of his death until the end of his funeral, and its lands and seas more bountiful than before.

The Fourth Wall

Tolus' concept has been with me for many years, but making a MOC to match how I imagined him was taxing. While the build is not the most complex, I wished to keep him looking like an inhabitant of the Bionicle universe and keep him matching with Xalos and Gringat while still having his own individual style.

The trident motif is repeated in his armour a few times, and the Weave's Symbol is displayed in full on his trident. There are matoran-like faces built into his shoulder armour, as well.

The head was the trickiest part, and uses some unorthodox connections to keep the mask attached and extend his face somewhat from Ehlek's. The spike at the front is meant to look like a fish's mouth, though it is superficial, because his real mouth would be hidden inside the mask. He also has a long moustache, like a catfish :3

Main source of inspiration for Tolus is the Sahaugin and Kuo Toa from the Forgotten Realms D&D setting, though this is fairly loose. He is also an experiment to imagine what an unmutated Ehlyus (credit to Cyan for the name) would look like.

If I continue at this rate of one Elemental Lord per birthday, I might have gotten all of them by the time I retire! Hooray?

Nice, I love the use of the Vakhi heads. This moc is proof that custom isn't always better, those arms and legs worked out great! :D

Another outstanding MOC from you, my friend. I tend to be fond of characters in black, but this is a really awesome color scheme and really looks the part. The whole design is great for 'simple'.

Very nice to finally see a new BIG MOC of yours! I love the head, very complicated indeed. I agree with Chopper, colours overkill, but they flow nicely somehow. ;D

Too many colors for my personal taste, but it does work very well. I love how you took some pictures without the armored cape thing. Um, how did you get both sides of the "blades" on the trident to be proportional ? (Or am I just thinking it is because I'm thinking of the Mata-Nui Glatorian shield?) ZAnyways, love the use of the Vahki Head/Eye pieces as the end of the cape, really great idea ! What impresses me the most is the amount of details is just about right, while the head is ridiculously detailed to make it really look different than Ehlek. Keep up the great work Gringat :D

Quoting L.A. Miranda This is magnificient! A very strange but beautiful color scheme, a nice torso and leg design... My favourite parts are the clothes (like the skirt technic) and the head, both are brilliant. The trident has also a great style, but I'm not very convinced of those rainbow jewels there... Well, my dear Gringat, amazing being, once more. Congratulations.
The "rainbow jewels" are actually The Weavestone, which was a seprate, standalone MOC until I placed it into Tolus' trident. Anticlockwise from the top they represent Air, Fire, Stone, Earth, Ice and Water, with black studs behind the right three to represent Shadow, clear one on the left to represent Light, and a gold one in the middle to represent Life. It's a model for their whole philosophy.

Quoting Ahpolki Ihu Very nice. Um, I'm writing this story called "Sound of Madness", and part of it's gonna focus on the time where the League of The Six Kingdoms was active. Is it okay if I was this character, or an alternate counterpart of him?
If you like, sure!

Quoting Topsy Creatori (StoveTopCreator!) A grand amphibious creation! And your choice of a V Williams selection is too... one of my favorites! But, just a note, it's not opening/loading/playing on it's own? :)
From what I've read, the "Video Player is Too Small" error is a problem with YouTube itself, and there's nothing that I can do about it. You can copy and paste its URL just as with any other link, though. That's how I have to deal with most embedded videos here on MOCpages, not just mine.
