Classic Space LL918L extended cab
Recognising the need for a cost effective intermediate craft between the one man 918 and the 928 cruiser, Lego Space Command commissioned the extended keel 918L in 1979...
About this creation

Ripping apart two of my 918 models I have concocted a 2 (or more) man double cabin variant. This uses all original pieces, including 2 1x4 control dial panels. The two cabins are separated by a wall comprising the computer panels plus a yellow transparent brick (you can just see it in one of the pictures). I widened the cargo section at the rear to 6 studs from 4 but kept the length the same - I tried adding 3 stud to put another set of 1x3 doors in but it didn't look right - and this houses the new dual engines, which the ship felt like it needed. There's just enough room behind the second crew member for a passenger, but it's quite cosy. The only thing I would change if I could we be to add a 1x2 transparent brick on either side of the aft cabin to give a view out, but could only find one!

The extra length for the extended cabin came from adding an additional set of 8x4 wings but I then turned the aft facing pair that sit under the engine originally through 90 degrees, so the actual gain in length is only 4 studs.

I've tried to mimic the style of the 928 with the winglets and ramps on either side.

The navigation lights on the tail were originally on the thrusters at the side but my son INSISTED on moving them. He will not be reasoned with on this point.

Pretty damn pleased with this actually!

Quoting Bradley James This is awesome!! I will say, however, as a big fan of the Classic Space theme since 1978 who still has all his original sets-- the nav lights need to be removed from the tail and put where they belong. Keep the Classic Space ideas coming!!
I agree entirely, however the vice admiral of greeblie engineering (my son) has ruled on this.
