Pop Art Mosaic of the Roy Lictenstein Painting "Girl in Mirror". Studs up mosaic, 150 x 150 studs created with over 11000 Lego bricks.
About this creation
I have always been a fan of the Pop Art movement and one of my favorite artists of all time is Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997).
I have painted quite a few of my own works in the style of Lichtenstein - both in traditional media and using computer graphics software.
When I was on the look out for a larger project to do in Lego, when it occurred to me that Lichtenstein's paintings are the perfect subject, as they predominantly feature bright primary colors and are flat 'cartoony' style.
Once the decision was made to do a representation of one of Lichtenstein's works in Lego, I spent a few days looking through various books in order to pick a specific painting. There are many famous examples of his works, but in the end I picked one of the less well known examples - 'Girl in the Mirror' which he painted in 1964.
The original painting was pretty much a square format, but I needed a portrait design, so I stretched it slightly. Other things I changed were swapping the red background for blue and giving the girl's finger some red nail polish instead of the original flesh color.
