If you are a big fan of Ninjago and have seen the latest cartoons, then you already know how cool the overlord dragon is. Though some speculate lego will not be releasing an overlord dragon set, I think they will in 2013 as a grand finale to this seasons cartoon series. However, My son really wanted an overlord dragon so I designed my own. It features a movable tail and wings that flex when the head is moved. The head was airbrushed using SEM auto paints. The purple spikes and violet angled connectors were pretty pricey on bricklink.
In all it was a fun project, and my son loves it.
Here is a short youtube video showing how the wings work.
since the wing is the same bricks and design on both sides I only took the time to create 1 wing in LDD. I figured an experienced builder could follow the directions for one wing and then build a mirror for the other side. As for the floating claw, LDD would not allow me to snap it into the holes of the tecchnic bar on the outer edge of the wing. I guess I performed an unofficial connection.
Thank you for sharing this great dragon,
i want to build it together with my son,
but we see in the actual Lego Designer 4.3
only the half dragon and a ghost claw (its just floating in the workspace) Which Version of LDD was used to build this ? Are there any different types of brick in germany ?
Can you send/upload me the file again?
I actually remade the model in ldd which required taking the original apart in sections. the LDD model demonstrated that technically the tail hal cannot connect to the torso half because there is a half space difference between the two sections. in real life the legos flex a bit and the half space difference went completely unnoticed when I was designing the dragon
I have placed a lego Digital Design file of the model just above this comment. You should be able to open the file using Lego Digital Designer and then select instruction mode to generate a set of instructions. Hope you and your son have fun
my son has been bugging me to paint a purple sphere. Time to bricklink!
as for the whiskers, I left them out on purpose. I did not really care for that element of the design. So not a perfect copy of lego's design, but hey that is the joy of a moc
The best (and only) Overlord Dragon I´ve seen. I would try adding some parts to give him the little `whiskers` he had in the show. Also, LEGO is now making purple zamors (those little spheres the dragons fire) in the Galaxy Squad series.
Great MOC, anyway!
