The Mini San Diego Temple has been one of the most challenging of mini replicas for me, mostly because of the amount of detail that needed to be translated into its miniature equivalent. A lot of detail had to be sacrificed in order to make the temple easily recognizable. That said, a lot of effort went into capturing the beautiful details of the landscaping, as well as many facets of the edifice itself. I found that in order to do both I had to start with designing the overhead view of the layout, including foundation and landscaping. I used graph paper to mark out the 16 x 16 baseplate, then transferred the details from photos to the paper so that major lines and featured fit into each grid square perfectly. From there it was much easier to recognize where everything should go as the replica was being built. From that point on I was able to build from the ground up comparing the photos I had of the temple from different perspectives. In all, it took me around 3 hours to layout the design on paper and another 6-8 hours to create the actual LEGO design on the computer. If you are interested in getting a copy of the building instructions and parts list please send $5 to my PayPal account (johnsonfambly@yahoo.com), and I will email you the PDF documents as soon as I check my email. Thank you for looking, and I hope you enjoy building it as much as I enjoyed designing it!
This is totally awesome!!!!! Just what I've been searching for! Thank you so much for being so talented and sharing your wonderful creation with the rest of us. You've done a superb job!
For months I've been trying to figure out how to construct a San Diego Temple. In reconstructing the Lego Town from my children's youth, to share with the grandkids, I felt compelled to add a very important building - a temple. If I may use ideas from your creation, to build one of my own, that would be a wonderful teaching tool in our Lego Town.
Thank so much again for sharing!!!!! I'm anxious to see and read through the information you've posted on your other temple creations!
