About this creation
Orthanc Bracket has me pitted against Kyle Ransom in the fourth round of the Middle Earth LEGO Olympics.

I figured Kyle would build the throne room, and contemplated building it myself. However, then the competition would merely be who built bigger and had more details, so I opted for a scene where the heroes are running out of the complex, followed closely by tumbling skulls. I also wanted to capture the eery vibe of the ghostly tunnels, and used glow in the dark pieces for added effect. (Unfortunately, this was absurdly difficult to photograph...)

While this photo is fairly blurry, it captures the glow better than most of my other pictures.

Darker than it should be, but highlights the glow effect nicely. This MOC was a great excuse to hone my photography skills, filming conventional MOCs will be a piece of cake now...

Dark and evil, but bright enough to see some details. I SNOTed the walls for extra detail.

A good view of the tunnel's curves and the skulls pouring around the corner.
Best of luck to Kyle, and thanks to Ian and the judges for putting this on.
Thanks for viewing!

Great rockwork! Those glow bricks might have been better in the mist But maybe not. How did you photograph this so that they were glowing? |

Great shaping of the SNOT cave walls. I like how you've distributed the glowing teeth. In the lit-up photos, they could be quartz crystals in the rock. The grey parts, under the skulls and mini-figs' feet, look like a cloud of dust, spewing out of the cave with the skulls to me. |

Brilliant! Shame you got bumped out of Round 5. This was awesome! You made it far after destroying my wimpy Elrond's Council! ;) Hope there's no bad blood between us from the Smack Thread in the MOCathalon. Once again, great creation, man! |

Nice! I love all the glow-in-the-dark elements. How/where did you get all of those?
Thanks Justin, I got them all from Bricklink.com last year for about 6 cents a piece. |

The work upon the rocks and cliffs is stunning! The glowing effect brings a cool value. I just would have added 5'000 skulls... (If I'm not mistaken, it's the final number of skulls the special effect team had to mold for this famous scene...). Great tribute.
Thanks Mark! Haha, what I wouldn't do for 5000 skulls... |

I am walking into this comment with no idea who my vote will go to. Therefore, I will walk you and myself through the high and low points of each MOC. I think your opponent's presentation beats you here, due to his smooth borders and such. However, your build was intended for a single photo shot. While your opponent's build was bigger, your build quality is slightly better (especially in the rock-work). I think my vote goes to you...yes, it does. Good luck with the other judge! This will be close. |

Excellent rock-work! The glow-in-the-dark feature is awesome...I love it when builders incorporate a funtional, non-gimmicky "play" feature in their creation. I wish you the best in the competition! |
