About this creation
Ok. I knew that I wanted to improve on Maximus with this build, so I made that the objective of the build. At first, when I started building this fella, I had poseability in mind, but I was dissatisfied with the detail I was able to add with that the objective. After all, it was size and detail that drew me to building with LEGO anyway. That being in my mind, I tore down what I had and started over concerning myself with nothing but the look of the robot. There is a weight issue, basically alleviated by the stand, but, that aside, I am pleased with the results.
This is Galaxus.
Galaxus is an escort. He is especially effective in a space battle because he is more maneuverable than a ship and has the ability to cause damage to enemy craft by way of physical contact. Which also makes his shield very deadly. He normally travels with royalty as protection, but occasionally he is commissioned for war, as in the main pic, where he is escorting two Orion Battleships and a squadron of VICtory Vipers to what is certain to be an amazing battle. This was also a good excuse for me to shamelessly feature a couple of my favorite MOCs. Heehee.
It had been a long time since I had really put some hours into a main pic, and I wanted this particular MOC to be presented right as I am pretty proud of the work that went into it. I am pleased to say that, with the exception of the planet, which was created just from a free rocky texture that I took from Google, the entire background was created from brushes and basic GIMP functions. The windows of the Orion are my favorite part there. I added a glow to the shield because I have always been fond of the idea of a shield with its own energy shield. I think it works.
Some of the photos look a little weird. I am trying some new stuff with my photography. I think it’s starting to look better than it did. I want to thank Jon Blackford, who has given me a bit of advice along the way for taking good photos. I’m not quite there, Jon, but you’ve got me on the right path. Thanks, man.
Here are some more detailed pics of Galaxus.

This shot is just to show that he can indeed stand on his own, but the slightest breeze brings him to pieces.

A close up of the head.

I wanted to give you a good close up of the detail in the shoulder, but I also like the dramatic effect of this angle on him.
The next shots display his accessories.

The shield.

The completely implausible gun.

The jetpack.
Bonus pic: Disaster strikes the homeland. Poor Galaxus. My brother tried to get the light on his phone close to the head to see the red visor. He says it was an accident, but I know sibling rivalry when I see it.

Thanks for checking it out. Let me know what you think.

Quoting Brdx the epic
nice build but did you base him off of galaxus the bionicle?
I didn't. As it is, I've never heard of Galaxus the Bionicle. I have absolutely no Bio-experience to speak of. To tell you the truth, I'm not sure how I came up with the name, but a web search turns up quite a few results, so I must have heard it somewhere. |

Wow, man! I honestly don't know what detail to comment on first, since the entire model is extremely impressive. I love the shoulders, legs and that jetpack. Great work! |

That is really a pretty nifty design, Tim - smart proportions and colour choices. And, oh yes, I know what a burden brothers can be. Maybe you should use the completely implausible gun on him ;D |

Aw, too bad it got destroyed :O Anyways, I really liked this one, especially the sleekness you gave it. You merged all those bricks together so nicely that they stopped looking like Lego, and started looking like an actual plastic model that was manufactured. (Ok, Lego is plastic... And admittedly it was manufactured by you... But you get the point... I hope) That gun looks gorgeous, by the way. Personally, I loved that double-barreled design, and the mask/head section is spectacular as well. The Galaxus has got to be one of my favorite MOCs you have made. |

Epic! Wonderful design, and you hit the size and detail aspects just right. Love the implausible gun! If you wanted to put a comedic Douglas-Adamsish spin on this moc, you could make that the gun's real name; a weaponization of the Improbability Drive. |

Only one idea croos my mind for this creation..some kind of sword or double-axe..to go better with shield. :D |

Very cool. Excellent detailing on the shoulders, and coloring throughout. Would like to see a slightly more structurally capable mecha from you! However, I too use stands now and again when designs work but have some small but catastrophic issues. |

I see that you are continuing to NOT fail!!! ;) Maximus was spectacular, but this is a grand leap forward. You should be quite proud of him. Proportions are exageratedly fun. The gun is ridiculously massive. AND a jet pack! What more could you ask for!?! Brilliant work! |

I know the way you feel regarding the play versus aesthetics argument. I've settled on the looks side myself I think, and this one certainly looks good. Possibly the best colour combination from you yet - escaping the bley bricks I see. Stand outs for me are probably that hefty gun, and the construction of the jet pack. Love the photo work too,
Trying to get away from them, David. My problem is that I was not very strategic about my LEGO buying at the very beginning. I thought that I would be satisfied with nothing but MOCs dominated by the bleys. A few with nothing but bleys showed me my miscalculation. For the time being I'm not buying any sets that are mostly bley. Thanks for the compliments, David. Always good to hear from you.

Nicely done mate! You have now inspired me to create one of my own. Though it might be a while before I get around to it. That's an impressive main picture you have there. I myself am using GIMP more often for my mocs. Any suggestions on how to make a good looking main picture with GIMP? |

Nah, we've gotten a bit old for punching each other. I just reminded him that Mom likes me more. That usually does the job;) Thanks for the compliment, Barto. |

Most impressive. You've taken the good points about your Maximus and revised the bad points and made a good, solid design. Very well done. ^Blub^
Thank you, sir. I was proud of Maximus in that I learned a lot from him. Galaxus has given me the correct proportions. When I go this direction again, I will rework the hands and see where that leads me. |

Okay, when I saw the shot of it standing on the ground, I was like "What the...Is this even LEGO?!". Tough it's odd really, whenever I look on this guy, he looks more like a Transformer, rather then a Mecha, well, to Me at least. And that wrist gun is absolutely amazing(and huge), but the small barrels kinda make it look odd(unless you were aiming for the "odd" look, I'd recommend to change those barrels to something...bigger). Anyways, it's an excellent build and a huge step forward from your previous MOC! Congrats!
Thanks for the pointers. I wouldn't say that I was going for the "odd" look, but I was trying to exaggerate certain pieces of him. Mostly it was the gun and the shoulders. My original thought was also from the knees down, but when I added from the waist up, it took away that exaggerated look there. Oh well, I'm glad you like it. It's one of my favorites now of my works and this love affair I'm having with robotic figures continues. |
