Gundam Wing Endless Duel
A LEGO rendition of SNES game "Gundam Wing Endless Duel"
About this creation
My entry for MocAthalon 2013. I am part of Team FBCI. This creation belongs to the category 6, "It's-a me, Mario!", where the idea was to build a character from video game. Well, I got bit carried a way and decided to really emphasize the awesomeness of the game by building the background and power bar too! Sadly, I didn't have enough time or ideas to built that nice "curved background" from the game.

In this scene we can see Mercurius and Gundam Sandrock fighting in the "Wing/Wing Zero stage" (picture of just the stage here). The game is based on the "Mobile Suit Gundam Wing" anime series and that is also where the Mercurius and Sandrock are originally from. There sadly quite little material of the actual game with these characters in this stage available so it is not easy to pin point you to directly to the source. This clip from Youtube is pretty much closest thing to the creation itself (althought it lacks Sandrock, opponent is Gundam Wing...).

Mercurius on the left (hovering as it usually is), Sandrock on the right, the stage in the background. Stage is bit altered version since the original was bit boring looking plus the "curved view" would take too much time to complete.

The "power bar" on the top is taken from the game. Lime colored bar shows the HP while lower indicates if the mecha is overheated (overheating limits shooting capabilities, basically).

Closer image of the competitors. I used modified Lazifest's frame on the mechas. It worked quite nicely, althought Mercurius' "big pant thrusters" don't really show up nicely.

Since I lacked some Travis bricks (Brick 1x1 with four studs on sides), the colors are sometimes bit off. They doesn't destroy the impression too much, tho.

Just the stage. The original buildings in the scene (the ones closest to mechas) looked too boxy and had bit hard colors. I changed their shape and coloring to better contrast with the competitors. I retained the "middle park with overhead" since it allowed me to play with forced perspective a bit. It does not work the greatest but has good enough "background" feeling in it to satisfy me.

The scene is a bit rough but the effort put into those characters saves you. 3 points. ~Thoy

Cool guys. Were they supposed to match the picture? It sounded like you were trying to say they might have been based on another source, but I wasn't sure. 3 points for a good scene.

I like the concept, and scale a lot, I ve been thinking about something similar for the past 2 weeks, but, too busy...you did very well, and the 'game features' don t distract the scene too much, being a player of armored core, I can appreciate, lol.

Man, if only the background counted towards the judging in this category! 3 points for your characters though!
