MA/13 Alien Landscape
About this creation

Contest Page: 2013 MocAthalon
Category 3. Alien Landscape.
Is it barren? Are the rivers green, gold or pink? Do the trees grow upside down? Do the Aliens walk around like they are constantly doing the limbo? These are all ideas. Build us your version of an alien landscape. This one is all about beauty 'outside the box'.

If at all possible, please read through the whole thing to gain more of a perspective on this build. If it is not possible, I understand :)

Out of all of the categories that I get to build for this contest, this category is my favorite! I had tons of fun building this.

A Slortha monster was spotted in the goo of the mountain cave. Two scouts went to investigate on their flying speeders. When they arrived, the monster was indeed in the goo. When the speeders got close, the Slortha monster shook the ground and flung it's tentacles through the air and scattered the round and bumpy surface as it broke through the ground.

A nice overview of the scene.

The tallest thing in this MOC is that tire tube plant! It really kept this MOC together as I was building. It kept the perspective right for me. This picture also has a nice view of the "ground-breaking" work. Pun intended :)

The goo that flows from the top of the cave.

A shot where you can see the goo falls and the rocks where it cut a path over time.

I'm really pleased with how the tentacles breaking through the surface looks! I used LEGOŽ tubes and a brown LEGOŽ whip to get some of the rows of 1x1 round bricks to be curved yet stable and connected.

The Alien perspective.

Now we'll take a step back and look at each of the cool little builds that make up this MOC.
Let's start with the Slortha Monster! (I like that name.....Slortha....sounds like a monster)

Here we have a side view of the Slortha Monster. You'll see that I put elements inside it to give it a not-so-transparent look. The green makes it look like it has some organs or something in there....creepy.

I'm really pleased with how the face turned out to be. Because of the weird neck piece I used, I had to literally attach the face with the LEGOŽ rubber bands. It holds on quite well actually. I can pick it up and move it around without it falling apart. The clips for its mandibles really make this guy!

More of the tentacles and the exploding ground without the Slortha's head in the way.

I kept the round and bumpy surface with the breaking. I also kept the orange accents in there as well.

In the back right where the goo river ends, you'll see the grilled bricks with some orange seed elements in there. That is a little forced perspective going back to the mountains. Here you can also see how the goo flows through the rocks.

This is one of my favorites! Those orange LegoŽ Brick Separators look like they just formed out of the orange gooey liquid. You can also see how the capped plants were made. A purple flame! Yes, they are standing up by themselves because of I put the end of the flame through some LEGOŽ satellite dishes. Note the grass elements peeking through the red net! The wrecking balls are used as spiky plants!

The "One-sided tree" and the tube plant. You can also see the unbroken ground behind the tentacles here.

The One-sided tree. I think those new LEGOŽ spike elements will come in handy more often! It was quite difficult to build this plant. I used the arches that are normally used for trees for this tree except had it upside down and then put purple seed elements in the gaps!

I love this bunch of plants!

Those white plants are cool because they have two swords between them so that they bend over a bit. Also, take a look at the little creature hanging out there from the cave, he's just cute!

These are some of my (many) favorites! Those clear bottle thingies are awesome!

The cave that lights up a bit so it seems like the cave is glowing but not shining out to the main surface of the planet. I've found that a blue light makes some transparent green and orange elements glow! It thought that would be cool for the cave! The cave is glowing in the first picture (not the title picture) but I don't know if you caught it. Take another look at the end of this MOC because I re-posted that picture at the end.

The blue thing in this picture is the light. I loved adding stuff between the transparent blue wall pieces like the tube and the transparent green grilled elements.

I used minifigure legs to give depth and color to the far backs of the cave. I also stuck 1x2 transparent flat light blue elements between the legs and the plate connecting the legs. If you look closely at the picture showing the front of the cave, you can actually see these things. Without them, the cave would be missing something.

Last but not least, the speeders and the little aliens that fly them!

I really like the shape of these speeders (there are two in the first picture but I re-posted that picture at the end so you wouldn't have to scroll up all the way to see it. I also posted The purple boosters fold out and become blasters to fight off monsters like the Slortha monster.

The fold-out position. You can see one of the speeders shooting in the first picture (not the title picture) that has been re-posted below this picture.

If you've read through the whole thing, I hope that now as you look at the overview picture again, you'll see some things you may have missed the first time. :D

Thanks for looking, I hope you enjoyed seeing these pictures as much as I did when I was building this! God bless!

I REALLY like all the action in this. Over all, it comes off as a tad too crowded though. A very solid 3! Good job!
