The Rivercrest, A Floating Rockship
About this creation

Category: #21 Will It Float?
Several years ago, Dave Kaleta challenged his students to build floating creations.
Now, the challenge is passed on to you. Build the biggest and/or best looking floating creation you can manage. You must provide a picture of the object maintaining position above the water line, aka floating.

On Earth, the laws of physics do not allow for a large clump of rock to float, so it would be a strange sight for an native of Earth to see a floating rockship coming down the river. Yet, on the planet Xanibaria, all farmers loads up their excess cattle and goods and shoots down the rivers to market on his rockship.

Thanks to the team and an anonymous builder who gave me awesome advice on this category. :)

This was really fun to build, but a real pain to photograph as you can well imagine.

Enjoy and God Bless!

Yup... as Barto suggests... it could be sandstone... then perhaps... pumice stone?! But anyhoo, sure glad these ABS bricks we love so much lock tight and have built in air chambers! Definitely a clever idea! :)

Must be sandstone if it floats, right? Cool build!

Great concept, I don't see this boat getting to a high rate of knots, but yes, the rock does seem to float - go and make your millions! 4 points. ~Thoy

Yeap, you can tell by the shadow on the bottom that it IS actually floating. 3 points ~ Chris.

Quoting Bart De Dobbelaer Cool entry ... but it looks like it's just sitting on the bottom of that bowl ... not really floating?
Its actually floating in those pictures. The water gives that effect, but I assure you it is floating at least half an inch above the bottom.
