Air Dreadnought
"The word dreadnought, translates as "fear nothing" in old english. this word encapsulates both the power of the vessel, but also the indomitable will of our great nation." :Bjorn Nargrach, head of the UGMC
About this creation

The armor is 50cm of Titanium A battleplate, filled with a viscous gel that is designed to spread out the pressure of railgun hits across the entire plate, reducing damage.

The twin Mjolnir 400mm railguns are the main armament, able to pulverise up to two metres of solid high grade steel.

For VTOL propultion, the dreadnought has six Gaufranian firebird VX2000 thrusters

I added a fair amount of Griebling

Between each engine is a dual warlord missile pod

On top are two dual Shrike AA missile launchers

the griebling is differnt on both sides

The grates are air intakes

the rear engines are sunk into two of the boosters

the front of the craft. two Eagle eye AA lasers are installed under the main plate

The back, showing the bridge. the shields add a very tradiional touch, just like the red war paint.

two 23x racks of cobra missiles fold out. these are similar to modern hellfires, laser guided anti tank and light vehicle weapons

the firebird insignia on the engines

two huge boosters provide most of the thrust, and also balance the recoil from the guns

there are eight thrusters in total

a close up of the bridge, showing the jolly rodger, flown by ships that have had a perfect training run (this tradition is in the US navy)

the quad minigun mounts are very versatile

they can also mount more eagle eye lasers...

...or a tri barrel gauss CIWS

This is the nerve centre of the ship, the main weapons control room. enough screens for ya?

the engine room, complete with a dual core laser cooled fusion reactor and a maintainnce android

the crew cabin, has two rest bunks, a small kitchen with microwave and coffe machine, plus a table with a smart tablet for recreational use. the drawers could use some locks with all that manouvering!

the weapons bay can hold almost anything, including up to four 2kiloton Pegasus cruise missiles...

...as well as quad mount poseidon anti shipping missiles

the underbelly, showing the thrusters and the weapons bay doors.

there is another shrike launcher underneath, as well as two more mounts for miniguns/lasers/CIWSs

underneath is the main radar casing. It operates ultra long range radar on adjustable frequencies, and also contains laser targeting pods and the main battle computer. on either side is a 104mm auto loading cannon for ground bombardment

in each weapons bay is a quad launcher for yet more warlord missiles

getting the model to stay on these tiny stands was not a good idea. it fell twice.

A good view of this ten pound beast.

the crew, from left to right: captain, AMX 2704 series android, two pilots, two weapons officers. the navigatr isnt there as he is asleep in the cabin.

A final scale comparison.

Capabilities :
speed- Mach 0.95
Armament- 2x mjolnir railguns 16x warlord missile 6 x shrike missile 46x cobra missile 4x Poseidon missile 2x Pegasus missile 24x minigun or 6x gauss CIWS 4x eagle eye laser
Plasma stealth- 90% stealth capability for two hours at a time

Ok, its finally done! four months of work has paid off. the uploader is finally working, and the editing software worked as well. the sun is shining on me today! This is my biggest vehicle yet, so for the effort put in, please rate and comment!

Amazing job! Love all the weapons thought and details, especially weapons bays and all the deploying items. Also a big fan of your propulsion design... very cool that you've got the VTOL and main drive capability so well planned and executed!

Quoting clayton Marchetti Awesome ship I like all the missiles . Well thought out
They aren't as good as the HMD on my Black Eagle pilot, although that is massively customised. The helmet is painted black, and has a trans blue eyepiece.

Oh, the Railguns look similar to the bow of the UNSC Frigates (before 343i messed them up). Hey, could you have a look at this: http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/358404 Please?

Quoting Reaper the Ultimate . Well! This is EPIC! The size is impressive, as well as all those weapons! As this is science fiction (and very cool) we can put aside some of the questionable science with the Rule of Cool! I like the idea of "90% Stealth." I think I understand what you mean. It can partially disappear from radar, reducing it's visibility to 90%. Those railguns are very nice, large and powerful, though I see a certain resemblance to a certain ship from a certain videogame franchise, mentioning no names. Overall, this is a very nice and well executed MOC, though it looks more like a spaceship than an airship. Dreadnought, a perfect name.
Thanks, you are correct I. Thinking I meant that it reduces visibility by 90% Although I usually build quite realistic vehicles, I went all out on this one. Question though, I think you mean something from halo, but which ship? It doesn't really look like any of them.

Quoting Matthew McCall You've really outdone yourself this time, this is easily your most awesome creation ever and in my oppinion the best built airship our little group has yet to see. Nitpick: the railguns shouldn't have those "teeth" on them, railgun projectiles require contact with both rails and those teeth seem to prevent projectiles from doing so... Also, just a quick note: there is no such thing as 90% stealth, as evading detection is far more complicated than that due to how many variables there are to factor in.
I was referring to how much smaller it appears on radar when cloaked, so ten percent as much as before. Still the size of a light aircraft, but a significant improvement. As for the railguns, I haven't done much research, so I was going off halo/sci fi. They are supposed to be the MAC capacitors or something. It is sorta like a hybrid railgun. Internal rails accelerate the round, then the MAC capacitors make tiny alterations to its flight path to aid long range aim. The slug doesn't touch them, as it is moving so fast and the magnetic field suspends it between them.

Quoting Matthew McCall Sorry I haven't commented on this earlier, this is an awesome airship that manages to almost look believable (as opposed to most which look like sci-fi stuff ;) ). Anyway, yeah, I don't understand why Chris things bigger and more guns is better, he really needs to do some research on why we don't use this approach in real life.
I tried to make it relatively realistic with air intakes, weapons bays and large engines. I loosely based the design off of a UNSC ship, but much smaller and with large external engines.

This is massive, the parts used on this probably would have driven me poor if I wanted to buy them. I like the weaponery "missile pods, railguns" Also like the detailing all over the ship. I might want to redownload LDD soon, so I can start making some new mini scale creations for the war.

Quoting Matthew Sylvan If you want more range with the railgun, you should increase its length not calibre. Btw, Chris' 1150mm guns' projectile slow down pretty fast because of the lot drag.
Exactly, but he thinks bigger is always better: calibres, tank size, multiple barrels, ect.

Quoting Zach Sykes; Master of all Things Mars I personally think somethign this massive is easy prey to a well planned fighter attack. I have a new high speed interceptor that I bet could do some serious damage to this thing. Regardless, I'd hate to be using ground forces or another air warship against 2 400mm railguns.
yeah, I intended it to dominate a ground battlefield and fight similar craft. It needs fighter protection, but don't forget that those lasers can also fire at fighters beyond visual range. (They are building this kind of weapon now) two 400mm rail guns are not much when you look at Chris' eagle class, but personally I think that calibre sizes beyond about this much for rail guns will only limit their Range.

My laggy computer makes me hate using LDD. What I like about your models is that they are all real. The challenge of making good looking models from finite resources is much greater than that of overcoming LDD lag!
