Jack Stoner and the Maersk Blues
About this creation

The Maersk Blues are in town, and we're not afraid to make some noise. This an entry in the 2013 MocAthalon, for category 13. The Band.

A broken down Maersk train is the perfect venue for us. Even before the categories were released I called dibs on building us as a band if such a category appeared; our name is perfect for a blues group.

Bruce on guitar, artfully positioned so that the instrument continues the diagonal white line painted on the train. Our band has style, despite the ketchup stains on his shirt.

Noah does a flying leap off the train while delivering some rocking lines - he's technically a back-up singer but he's pretty much become our principal since Jack Stoner's often passed out drunk.

LukeClarenceVan plays to his Scottish ancestry with bagpipes, all the while wondering why no one ever shows up to our concerts.

Elliott unleashes his inner Mozart on viola.

We're all a little worried about Bart, but he plays with gusto so we've left him alone for now...

I was inspired by a similar brick-built Maersk sign which I'd seen on Flickr a while back, it was trickier than I expected. Cut flex-tube provided a solution to a small offset in the "R".

The front. Limited piece selection in Maersk forced me to use trickier angles than I ordinarily would, and I think it looks better for it.

Ah, here's Jack. He's always rambling about how he was a hero a few years back, then everyone forgot about him. Personally, I'd never heard of this "Jack Stone" character, so I'm not sure if he's telling the truth. Either way, we've taken to calling him Jack Stoner due to his drinking addiction. He's not really much of a lead singer, but he's the best we've got.

Flying down the rails, or at least seeming to.

The train on it's own. My first foray into this genre, and more fun than I expected.

Hero shot!

This is a really cool backdrop for the band, the band is a bit simple though. 4 points. ~Thoy

Quoting David Roberts Great work on the lettering. I like how you avoided the problem of chosing a windscreen by building a smashed one.
Thanks! Haha, you weren't supposed to realize that... ;)

Haha. Nice work. Though a Viola is held upright like a Violin. That looks more like a Cello.

A nice build accompanied with some hilarious write-up. ;) Bagpipes, eh? And I've got to agree with Deus on the cello aspect.

Quoting David Alexander Smith It is a braver man than me who dons the kilt atop a speeding train! Just realised the train is broken down, maybe you're not as brave as I thought.
Alas, but I'm not quite that daring...

Quoting cyberfrank 2010 the concept is great, too bad you don t have the real train parts, as the loco is a bit low on rails, otherwise, it s colorful, detailed, and funny!
Indeed, I lack any train parts whatsoever. I guess this is the sporty low-rider locomotive...

Quoting matt rowntree Looks like Bart has a personal vendetta against all percussion instruments! =] Great band; however, with the inclussion of a bagpipe AND a viola, we have found the reason for the lack of attendance. As Zappa put it, "a cacophany of sonic mutilations." Love it, good luck.
Perhaps our lovely "cacophony of sonic mutilation" is why Bart is so bent on drowning us out... ;)

Quoting BobaFett 2 Jack Stone is actually a different guy - the one with the hair who wears blue. That one there is a pilot.
Nope, that's Jack after a few years of bad aging and a few too many drinks. ;)
