Angel Dragon
Inspired by Japanese Anime and Manga Films
About this creation
Built for the MocAthalon 2013
Team: Bricks for Breakfast

Category: 22. Parody This! Imitate a form of pop culture past or present(music, film, literature, art) and give it your own twist.

I have always loved the imagery of Japanese Anime and Manga Films/Comics.

Human characters are often depicted with spiky or long flowing hair that often covers part of their face. Their bodies tend to be slim and long limbed. Robot (Gundam) characters have large angled shoulders and often have ‘wings’ and oversized weapons. Both types of characters are usually depicted in a dynamic or striking pose.

This is my attempt to recreate some of my favourite characteristics from this form of art. I started the build by reversing the dragon’s head to recreate hair, this also set the colour scheme. As I was building it soon became apparent that it had similarities to an angel hence the name Angel Dragon.

I finished the build off by positioning him in a classic Kung Fu pose - Reverse Panther and wielding two short 'liquid' swords in a reverse grip.

I hope you like him.

Hope you like him.

An interesting use of colours, white & orange plus the trans blue but really works. Very manga! I like how the legs taper down to the narrow ankles but the joint is still strong.

Quoting MCLegoboy ! It's okay. I think the hair is confusing because it has a face of it's own. And I'm no biologist, but I'm pretty sure that the human left knee does not bend that way. The wings the blades and the body all work really well though. Perhaps if you had a different dragon head color for the hair, I could differenciate it better.
Thanks for your honest feedback. You are right about the knee on this figure but this stance (Reverse Panther) is very possible in real life. The thigh is twisted to support his upper body.

Quoting Chronos Omega Overall, fantastic, as these figures usually are. :P Not sure about the color of those swords- too bad the cheese slopes don't come in the same shade of trans light blue as those tall 2x1 pieces.
Yeah that is annoying. They are supposed to be ice or liquid swords. Thanks for the comment :D
