Couple In Conversation
A model of a public sculpture by Johannes von Stumm, because not everything has to have wheels...
About this creation

Sitting demurely in the middle of a busy roundabout on the way into Newbury, an oasis of calm.

The title of the piece may be connected to the presence nearby of the headquarters of Vodafone. I think they paid for it. Thanks guys - there should be space in our lives for more stuff like this, and I still enjoy seeing it on my way to work every day.

The real one is 5 metres tall. The model is 50 studs high and 36 wide, with 12V train lights in the base. It's also fairly fragile.

I'd like to thank David Alexander Smith , whose artworks inspired me to have a go at this.

That atmospheric night shot. Possibly.

Thanks for viewing this departure from my usual fare.

An excellent version of the original artwork. I saw that one blogger mentioned that it might be rather fragile but this isn't the sort of MOC that was designed to be swooooshed!

Lovely. But as I said years ago on one of your early modern architecture pieces, unless I get to examine the base, I am not willing to accept on faith that you have no wheels somewhere in here. It's just human nature. Should I believe you are a better man than the rest of us. (Of course, you may well be.)

Excellent work, reproduction or not. I like how you used those hinge pieces to create the wave effect. Nice touch with the lights as well. As far as art is concerned, I don't think you can find a better source of inspiration than David. Very well done.

Great sculpture in real life AND in Lego. You did it true justice. Negative space is always a bear to get right and you nailed it. I have to admit that I did a double take on the name of the Lego creator. You, Nick, have done well stretching out and going for something completely different. I am curious as to what may come from this. D.A.S. may have a little competition. =]

This is stunning. Adding the curve to a build of this type works perfectly. The original's negative space is carried over to the Lego version intact - not easy. Thanks for the name check, and I'm really touched that my endeavours have inspired you. Great work.
