Category 19: An Elegant Moc for a More Civilized Age

Replicate any science-fiction object or device from a favorite movie, video game, or other media in life-size scale. Attention to detail matters here!

Standard issue to all humans stationed on Pandora (or at least the rebreather is).

I built some gear from James Cameron's Avatar for my last MocAthalon build.

The face shield is made using trimmed polybags, they're held on with the tape from Lego boxes.

RDA Exopack and Knife

Same as main pic, view on Flick for high-def.

Overview of the RDA rebreather.

Side view. The back part wraps around my ears and (although it is separate) mimics the straps on the Exopack prop when it is placed on the head, as seen here

RDA Exopack

Proof that it is built in 1:1 scale, as they were made to fit over the face. The black tube part, AKA the filter, filtered the toxic chemicals from the Pandoran atmosphere so humans could breath.

Keep in mind that the clear part is made using polybags that were trimmed, and they are held on using Lego tape from the boxes. There have been long discussions on Flickr about whether or not this is an acceptable Lego practice, and the majority agreed and found this unorthodox building style to be pretty cool.

Reference picture for the Exopack, I only made the rebreather, as the tanks weren't seen that often in the movie.

Here is the knife from Avatar that Jake Sully was seen using in a brief scene, no good photos of the prop were available, so I made it to the best of my ability. From the scene the knife is shown in, it's nothing more than a shadow really, I assumed that it was a dark gray, but couldn't make it all that color due to parts limitations.

Me holding the knife.

One final shot with me wearing the Exopack and wielding the knife.

And with that, a 36 hour MA run comes to an end for me.

Go Team GAIA!

The mask is quite cool. I would have liked to see you finish it off instead of make the knife. 3 points

Tape from Lego boxes? It deserves a good score just for that. 4 points

Score = 4 (yeah, the use of even Lego packaging material scraped it up to a four!)

Build was a three pointer but your use of the unorthodox "Lego" element bumped ya a bit. 4 points ~ Chris.

Quite a nice build, due to the fact that I can tell you were running out of time. Your other builds are fantastic, and I like this one in how you made the plastic bag and the tape from the lego boxes. Quick thinking! I like the face masks technic ear holders. Great build! I was sorry that I coudn't participate in the mocathalon this year, but due to school and soccer, I just didn't have the time. I had a lot of fun last year on the team. Great build! ~Rory Simpson~

Quoting Wertman 8 How do you breath with the mask on your face? Did I miss something?
Finally, someone asks it! I used one of those little polybags with holes in them so I could breath, that part is above my nose and my mouth.
