About this creation
Finished in 1884, the Washington Monument is the tallest stone structure in the world and tallest in Washington DC. Architect Robert Mills

The 555ft tall obelisk, is the tallest obelisk in the world, towering over Washington DC 300ft away from intercept of the national mall (shaped like a catholic cross).

The circular plaza beneath the monument holds 56 american flags. one for each state, one for DC, and 6 for US own territories. since the Monument sits on a hill the plaza isn't leveled

Since the earthquake in late 2011 the monuments public access is closed until 2014 (estimated). the Monument, (being the tallest in Washington DC) has an observation deck 500ft up, has 8 windows (2 on each face), and has the best views in Washington DC

The Washington Monument is one of 5 famous monuments and memorials on Washington's National Mall:White House, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, US Capitol Complex, Washington DC.
