R.K. scrabbled over to another body and found that again, the gun had been glued to the hand and when he removed the helmet, he found another Twi’lek.
“I’VE GOT A NATIVE!” Hess shouted and several calls came from around confirming the same.
Blast collapsed to his knees in the middle of the road next to a body and leant forwards on his hands.
They’d be tricked. The troops weren’t F.I.S. they were civilians in armour. The F.I.S. had captured them and forced them into the armour. Blast realized and took a gasping breath in shock.
That’s why the gun’s had been glued to their hands; so they couldn’t remove them and alert the U.R.S.. Iadsgb had known they’d come. Blast knew it had all been too easy!
He started to sob and other leaders around the town figured out what had happened too. They rushed back to the main road and re-grouped, all in shock at the discovery.
“They’re all civilians. Every one of them.” Slash choked on his words as he joined the group.
They stood a short distance from Blast and nobody spoke a word as their leader cried audibly at what had happened.
“What have we done!” he sobbed through his wailing and tears, looking up towards his comrades.
Falcon, Padfoot and Hess all removed their helmets, Falcon so that he could wipe away his own tears. Padfoot watched on, blank-faced deep in thought.
A whistling wind blew through the gorge, the only sound other than Blast’s wailing. Nobody moved or spoke for several minutes, all shocked and horrified at the trick that had been pulled on them and what they’d done.
It was a shock therefore when suddenly several loud bangs echoed out.
Blast stifled his sobs and looked up, confused, then looked all around. The other leaders looked just as baffled and then several more bangs reverberated around the ruins, more urgent sounding this time.
It was then than Nightblaze pointed at one large pile of debris. “Look!” he cried out and ran over to it. R.K. stood up and walked over to him, as did the others leaders.
Beneath the rubble and rocks appeared to be an intact building made from durasteel.
Blast pulled a beam to one side and revealed part of a door.
More bangs came from within, apparently on the door.
“Quick!” Blast shouted. “Clear the rubble! There must be civilians inside!” he frantically started to pull and push at the rocks and rubble on and around the mound, trying to clear the doorway.
The others aided him and they were soon making good progress.
“We’re coming!” Blast shouted through the door. “Damn Iadsgb!” he cursed out loud. Padfoot moved around next to him to help him shift another beam that lay diagonally across the doorway.
“These must have escaped and locked themselves in this bunker.” Padfoot commented as they pulled on the huge lump of wood.
It took Falcon and Shock to help R.K. and Padfoot before they managed to shift the beam. They hauled it backwards and dropped it on the ground out of the way.
The U.R.S. head exhaled and rested for a brief moment then turned back to face the slowly appearing bunker as the final scraps of rock were cleared from the doorway.
He walked back towards it as more bangs came from inside, urgent ones.
“Keep back!” he shouted as Flare made to open the door. “They might think we’re the F.I.S. come back to capture them. Stay well clear until we know what they’re going to do.” He said as he moved over to where Flare stood.
The other leaders all backed off as Blast stood in front of the door. He put his head as close to it as was possible and shouted through it to whomever lay on the other side.
“I am R.K. Blast! Head of the United Rebelling Systems and we’re here to help you! I’m going to open the door now so that you can come out!” he paused then continued.
“We’re you’re friends. Okay? On 3!” He looked over at Padfoot who nodded. “1! 2! 3!”
There was a large wheel on the front of the door, which Blast now gripped and with effort, began to turn in an anti-clockwise direction. The wheel groaned as it turned, rubbing against the durasteel door.
The wheel came to a halt with a clunk and Blast paused, took a deep breath and started walking backwards, pulling the door open as he went.
The door swung open, but Blast had to keep pulling and the door was so big, he couldn’t see into the bunker until he let go and walked back around to the entrance.
Inside was pitch black and he had to squint to make anything out and then all he could see were the outlines and basic features of a group of people just inside. R.K. frowned when they didn’t move.
The other leaders moved around so they could see into the bunker but still stood a good 10 meters back.
“Friends indeed.” Said a familiar voice from within and suddenly a blindingly bright light turned on inside the bunker and Blast turned his head away with his hand over his eyes
and when he turned back, a figure stepped forwards from the pack, still mostly hidden in darkness, only the lower half of his face visible with a smile slowly spreading across it.
“All we needed were a few lab rats to test our chemical on but you’ve gone and blown them all up!”
The spreading smile turned into a full on grin and a blaster shot flew out from somewhere in the bunker and stuck Shock in the arm. He cried out and Blast spun to look as the other leaders dashed at Shock to help and R.K. looked back at the now laughing group in the bunker.
He stumbled back as the lead figure,
Iadsgb, stepped into the daylight, laughing and drew his guns.
“RUN!!!” Blast bellowed and turned tail and fled, grabbing his helmet from the floor on the way, to the sound of the head of the F.I.S.’s laughter and instructions to “Go get ‘em!”
