DISCLAIMER!!!: If you want Summary before Lore, then skip to the end. =) While I always included O.G.R.E. in my mental 'Somniferrian Pantheon', this posting largely serves as little more than a Headstone over an Untimely Grave. I TRULY appreciate your Looking in, but request you make sure to check the purpose of the Post before judging too harshly. CHEERS!~ =D
About this creation

Welcome back, guest Researcher, to the S.A.I.! While this, our latest Entry, is LESS corrupt than File Archive Ref: "Malgothiel" unfortunately it is less COMPLETE. Please bear this in mind while studying the truncated File that follows. It is based on all previous data herein Archived, along with a rationed amount of supposition, unverified sadly, but as coherent as our scientists can piece together. Our apologies, and thanks for your Patience in this matter.

Before the rise of Magmael , and the advent of the Ancients, precursor Somniferrian civilization was underlain by the presence of independent Military bodies.

Unto each nation, armies: vast armadas of ships, troops and warmachines.

Then in 249,929 the nation of Gaisro Tautos covertly began development upon the Magmael project , unaware that the discoveries that inspired it had been stolen, sold, and studied by many other governments, in their greed to be first to launch their own versions of the advanced technology.
Meanwhile, full colonization of the planetary System meant dwindling resources, and governments began to pour their resources into this new, secret concept:

ONE weapon, to defend their nation.
ONE weapon, to make all others obsolete overnight.

To coin an ancient phrase of Earth pop-culture; 'Fate, it seems, is not without a sense of Irony.'

Sadly, as you already know, they got their wish.
While we cannot determine if the Gausroi were the first to realize their vision, we do know that the joint-alliance of seven nations calling themselves the "Somniferrian Oligarchical Military Alliance"(or 'SOMA') were the last to let go of their dream of a vast Military of millions.

Instead, they pooled their ambition into the building of a Prototype...
...a unit dubbed the 'Orbiting Global Response Elite' or 'O.G.R.E.', by the SOMA Advanced Weapons Research Division.
Pending successful Field-testing, SOMA had scheduled mass-production of the Protoype for late 249,931 for global deployment, based on the success and lethality of the Cyborg's early tests.

However, on the far side of the planet, at precisely 20:10:17 Hiria Distiratsuak local (the eve of O.G.R.E.'s scheduled launch), the unfinished Dominael became Self-Aware.

Was the Dominael transcription error related to the so-called 'Malgothiel Effect' (the 'data-infection' documented here , (even though days earlier than her recorded appearance in high-Phobian orbit)?

Regardless, the ...anomaly... seems to have been more widespread.

Designed, as these shots clearly relate, as a mid-size elite Combat Frame with a cockpit designed for a three-pilot team, on the eve of its launch, and half-a-world away from the events of Event One, a disturbingly familiar event occurred in the labyrinth of code downloading into O.G.R.E.'s onboard systems pre-launch;

...amid the landscape of Zeroes and Ones, appeared one single, solitary ...'?'. And in that instant, a NEW Monster was born.

On its orbital deployment platform, it quietly groped towards the light of consciousness... and seems to have missed. Instead of the colossal intellect displayed by the classified Ancients, O.G.R.E. manifested empty, directionless RAGE. It lashed out, ripping free of its restraint scaffolding, and began to EAT...
Metals, Plasteels, Exotic Glasses and rare trace Elements. It mimicked the Ancients, those awful 'Angels', it ripped the station to shreds, consuming every scrap in reach... and it GREW. Unmanned, Armed with the most advance weaponry, this hollow shell began to Kill, Eat, and Grow. But like Seismovore , the appetite proved bottomless. While the Ancients began their awful war thousands of miles away, O.G.R.E. vigorously consumed the very Military organization it was meant to render Unstoppable.

This rogue, rudimentary AI still sensed the enticing War, already in progress, and it wasted no time to throw its gauntlet into the ring. Giant, wasteful thrusters roared to life, blasting it across the skies - as blue Somniferria below it had already begun to bleed. An ugly red arc tracked its path across the starry black expanse, a toxic smudge of vented radiations and wasted chemical fuel - as if O.G.R.E. were already writing Somniferria's epitaph while its death throes continued, far below.

It is, perhaps, a mercy, that the threat the GigaBorg posed was ended before it could truly whet its hunger upon the feast below.

As documented here, O.G.R.E. was struck from orbit while still locked in combat with its first opponent, a vile construct called Worme . It was cast down, impaled and mercifully obliterated by the Kriegspire, literally pinned like some monstrous beetle to the planet below; ...at a site now labeled " 10029b ", during Valkyriel 's opening blow in the War of the Ancients. For details, see her individual Archive.

Resultant to this termination, we know far less about what O.G.R.E. might have become, were it to have continued to grow stronger, deadlier, and smarter.

...I, for one, am grateful.

Modern Somniferria, restored and teeming with Life these many millennia hence, owes Valkyriel a debt.
...it is speculated that after surface life was consumed at last, O.G.R.E. would have turned to the planet itself for sustenance; strip-mining, like the Seismovore that evolved in its absence (or perhaps, that behemoth is tied to the 'Borg, somehow?...), until the planet cracked, collapsing like an apple too riddled with the tunneling of a maggot that grows larger with every bite?...

I am grateful we shall never know.

Beginning 4thWall Commentary!!!: The Uploading of this MOC is a truly bittersweet event: I loved it, I hated it, while I was actually emotionally upon its destruction - it's truly a wonder it lasted as long as it did, without being thrown against a wall or out a window. Ironically, my Wife saved me the trouble of deciding to improve Frankenstein, or Pull The Plug. Egad, where to begin?...*sigh*

The first glimpse of this MOC appeared aaaall the way back in October 2011. It was my most ambitious work, and is(was?) STILL my largest, ever. Time of Death?: 4:03pm, 01/01/13. On New Year's Day, while we were just getting moving after a nice get-together, my Wife came into my studio to borrow a hammer, and one of those long Talons you see below snagged her sweater.

Tiiiiimberrrrrrrr! I still don't know if I was happy or sad. Aware of her transgression, she strategically withdrew while I just stared at the pieces all over the floor. ALL OVER the floor. Along with three other MOCs. While the other victims were salvageable, O.G.R.E. Dumpty could not be Put Back Together, by All the King's Horses, even if All The King's Men were Licensed MOC Contractors.

I had already wresteled with dissatisfaction with it for MONTHS. My list of gripes:
1) I
HATED the 'rainbow of colors' from careless cobbling together from dwindling resources. I was running out, so I planned to switch out God-awful colors later when I was satisfied with the structure.
2) Articulation sucked. Well, at least the legs and waist. The Original build swiveled almost 200degrees! (then, fell down and shattered, while I used alot of inappropriate language). While I wanted to keep it, I sacrificed waist, knee, and ankle articulation in order to keep the size without quitting altogether.
3) I wanted better Gimmick placement, without adding weight: this thing had lights, sounds, hidden weapons all over, but they were HEAVY. And it DIED before I could photo them at work. =(
4thWC: Here's a basic Size Comp, just with FrostHulke for scale. Top-down;
1)Giant shoulder Gatlings, Mid-range Nukes, giant spring ballista (I was thinking Concussion Emitters for leveling terrain, as it's MOSTLY a ground, fighter - they were supposed to be launched into the front lines from orbit, in deployment pods)
2)Two sets of articulated scythes for 360-degree Melee (my repsonse to NO waist-articulation), one pair locks over each shoulder pauldron at the joint.
3)Cockpit; designed to show it was SUPPOSED to be a Manned Warmachine, capacity: 3 crewmen. Then the AI became self-aware, and...

4thWC: 3-way Size Comp.
4) Overlapping waist armor concealed the ribcage that made up the core. It allowed Flexion, but not real rotation. Pistons were installed to prevent tilting, forwards and backwards.
5) An incredibly over-elaborate system was concealed under each pauldron at the shoulder. I was determined to make up for the loss of lower articulation with great flexibility in the arms, for Melee. Bizarre technic solution I wish I'd photoed. =( it wasn't bad.
6) Armor on the forearms for curvature and FULLY articulated hands (perhaps my best design for them to date, but well,... huge. They were the inspiration to build this MOC; hadda have a Monster to use those hands. Wolverine-style blades along the radial bones that retracted, one pair each arm.
7) Hips concealed Jamming Arrays for disruption of enemy military tech and a small concealed hatch for holding one 'N-2'-style Grenade, for pitching in combat.

4thWC
8)Thigh cockpits held one additional mid-rage nuke, each (visible if you'll enlarge the Pic). Lower leg green cockpits were just there for shape (I'd intended to replace with opaque, once I found some). Lower legs had System-style armor (I was pleased with how often I was able to integrate SOME System-bits into this MOC - I don't use them too often).
9)Waist armoring extend all the way to tail underside, fully covering ventral surface. The sides of the main Tail section had side pegs with elastic tensors to help retain balance, like a lowered T-Rex tail.
(There's FrostHulke sulking in the foreground. He knows when he's whipped ;P )

4thWC
ALL THESE SHOTS were taken as nothing more than REFERENCE SHOTS, in an early Shoot. Man, I had SOoooo many plans. =( Little did I know they'd end up being used as Final Shots. I edited them to make them as visible as possible, but the results weren't my best. C'est la Vie.
10) Each of these toes were individually articulated, with a threaded elastic holding the 'toe-pad' on, styled as if an Eagle's toes.

4thWC
11) Better shot of the Cockpit Detail. You can see the coil of joints I'd used inside to effect a nice spiked Pop-Out tentacle spear if you look REALLY close. Don't mistake me - I never got it to work. I left it in, in hopes I'd solve the mechanics in a future revision. =(

4thWC
A look at those splayed claws. They looked alright, in the end. 'tried three claw types before settling on these.

4thWC
Shoulder assembly detail. Easier to see articulated ordinance arms, and retracted melee blades. Wish I'd taken a few shots of them Deployed. =( Spheroid shoulder armor dates aaaaall the way back to Classic Space sets =)

4thWC
A three-quarter shot of the Cockpit/Shoulder. You can ALMOST see the complicated technic joints that articulated the shoulder. ACK!~ the COLORS *gag*.

4thWC
And if you've Rated any of my Earlier Works, you've seen the next 3 shots. I suppose I just wanted to Document O.G.R.E.'s final resting place. Here it sat, while I passed it everyday, thinking of OTHER MOCs while plans to finish/FIX it distracted me, grinding my teeth. Dominael has taken its place, as the new centerpiece. Thank God I was able to rebuild him. XD O.G.R.E. even tried to take out other MOCs in Real Life, as a Final Act of Rage. =D

4thWC
A reverse-profile of the same. As a note, this was before I got brave and Painted bits, but the presence of all the colors was something I never really got a chance to fix. Custom painting would have worked well, I think, but since it took FOUR HANDS to even MOVE O.G.R.E., facing the dis-assembly required to isolate and remove the mis-colored bits would've likely cluttered up an entire SECOND room in my house. Which would've made waves with the Mrs.Crowe. So i put it off, again and again, until... well, y'know. Too late! His Parts have already gone on to appear in two NEW MOCs (shhhhhhhhh!; sooper-secret! ;D) that I am a GREAT DEAL more PROUD of, than this Deceased Monster.

4thWC:
May it Rest In Peace.
Or... Pieces, I suppose.
FEAR NOT: If I was a Guest, Reviewing or Rating this MOC, I'd have Things To Say, too, about bits that badly needed Revision. Rate as you see fit. -I was surprised to have created something so BIG that it became an impediment to REVISION. I knew it needed doing. Knew it wasn't finished. And simply procrastinated on the prospect of DOING IT, until it was too late. Let it be a CAUTIONARY TALE for you, if appropriate.

The TRUE reason this MOC was posted was to EXCORCISE the demon. I knew it had to be done, am realistic about the relative quality, seeing as it was never finished, but wanted to ...mark its passing, I guess.

I hereby lay this mess to Rest.

As always, thanks for looking! Feel free to Rate/Comm/Crit as you see fair and fit. I'll answer as many questions as I can as work on my next Projects progresses. Cheers!

Ah. I could see why you would disassemble OGRE he is massive. I want to build something similar to a Umbravore. But with a Felnas as a base instead of a Shelek.

Quoting Wondering Person Do you intend to take apart any more MOCs? Please do not take them apart. Also, we're friends right? Also could you give me advice on MOCing? Thanks in advance! :)
I typically don't disassemble, W.P. - O.G.R.E. was a very lamented accident. I still think about trying to build a 2.0 sometimes. As for advice, ask for specific direction, and I'll give you specific feedback. Direct questions, links to pics with questions about parts or tech, those all work.

Quoting S H WOW! It seems that your creations keep getting bigger and bigger :D I like the way that you incorporated system pieces as well! I havent been on in awhile and I thought I would check out your newest mocs!
I thank you that you did, Sam - much appreciated. In truth, my Scale has gone smaller in recent works, but this monster WAS the biggest MOC I ever made, when it lived. =) Thanks for checking in, I hope all is well with you.

Quoting Oblivion Doomknight I like this big 'bot, Clever, even if you don't (and I totally get why XD). Good stuff, even for "dwindling resources". Another question, one I've been meaning to ask for awhile now: this "Worme"...what does it look like (as in is it a MOC or just pure fiction)? Lastly, I'm [re]writing Mourne's story ( http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/360523 ). Be sure to check it out and tell me what you think! Thx ^^
=D Oooooo I'm not sure if I should answer that... how to do so while remaining mysterious, hmmm? Let's say it's Fiction. And anything else I could say would be telling all those listening... a little TOO much. ;) The rest will just have to be made clear in due time. Not trying to be obnoxious, just don't want to give too much away... =P (I'm heading over to check out the Mourne link now)

Quoting Toa Spirit Crow I was taking another look at Val and I noticed something. On her page you said she killed WORME with Kriegspire not OGRE. Did she kill both of them with one hit or did you decide to change it?
Worme was grappling in orbit with O.G.R.E. @ melee--range, and got plucked from the fight as Val pinned it to the planet; her opening blow. Enraged, the cheated O.G.R.E. pursued Val to the surface, where he was also slain by the white twin (at a Site later named '100029b') - not her equal in Melee-Finesse, apparently. =) An important distinction, nice question Spirit! Cheers~

Quoting Toa Spirit Thanks for letting me know about that. Now I'll let you know when I finally get that moc uploaded. I would be greatful if you'd take a look at it. Don't expect it to be as good as some mocs. To be fair I did just get started and have limited parts. Anyway can't wait to see what else Somniferria has hidden in its past:)
No worries, Spirit. I try to judge each MOC upon its own merits. And I'll try, for my part, to keep future Somniferrian additions interesting, if not entertaining. ;)

Sorry I didn't respond but as you may have noticed ALL NOTIFICATIONS are busted, right now. The problem you're experiencing extends to the Uploader. No-one can get pics to post. LOL I had no idea anyone had posted a new Comm here, until I checked it out of curiosity; lo and behold, New Comments (that I never got my notify e-mails for) XD. Quoting Toa Nexal Even with all the colors, it's still sinister looking. I guess the overall predatory stance helps with that.
A fair call, skeletal-wise; I can't deny alot of saurian-in-general, and Velociraptor-in-specific Inspiration for the leg and tail architechture, although Giger's Xenomorph played a role there, too - please allow me to plug the work of Mike Nieves, a PREMIER Shapesculptor here on MOCpages. You should see what the man has done along those lines - it's utterly humbling. THANK YOU for the Review! =)

Quoting Yuri Fassio A bit too many colors for my taste, but the build is AWESOME. And of course your photos really bring it to life. I also think the tail should be made by shorter sections. my favorite parts are the legs, the gatling guns and the upper torso/face area. Those silver blades frame the cockpit/head beautifully.
/facepalm -Of course. I totally would've re-palate'd him if he'd have lived longer - surely Id've gotten around to it eventually. ;) (The first eight inches of tail didn't move left-right, so I lengthened all-tail-that-didn't-rest-against-the-ground-all-the-time, to let the claw-cannon thing 'loom' over one of his shoulders.) I truly would've loved to show you all those armblades 'out', Yuri. They kinda fanned out behind the cockpit on the segmented arms, looked nifty. Alas =( But I'm still glad you liked the way they looked retracted. Me too. Thanks for checking it out, Sir. Cheers!~

Quoting Toa Spirit I can only imagine the terror this thing would have been had it been as smart as the ancients. Heck it must have been a terror to build. Anyway may he rest in peace or as it turned out pieces.
Thx, Toa =) I honestly figured him to be all cunning, cold circuits. I didn't designate him as an Ancient, as I always saw him as the MOST MACHINE-like of my Somniferrians; more a Warmachine that grew just smart enough to decide it didn't need us anymore... but if Val hadn't finished him off so early, well - who knows, right? =O Thanks for the Review!

Quoting Max W. Ya know, I just thought of something. Did the tail actually support any of the weight, or was it a counterbalance? I was reviewing the structure of the ting and for the life of me I can't figure out how it stood up for so long. It must be lighter than it looks...
Sharp eye, and good question - it was both. At four studs wide (where it met the hips), it was heavy enough (and looked like the keel of a pirate ship! ;) -)to offset the massive shoulder weight. Standard T-Rex mechanic: when shoulders leaned forward, the tail slid back to compensate for weight; when shoulders back, tail came forward to prop more kickstand-style. It ALWAYS rested against the ground, to answer your first question. Weight made this necessary. Thanks for the question, Max!

Quoting A. Jones Woah
Way! =) Neo'd be proud of you!
Quoting Max W. That looks suspiciously like a certain exo-force build... at least the lower half. I'd recognized OGRE from previous posts, and I'm kinda sad that the project didn't see completion. Of course, when it's that enormous I know how hard it can be to refine every little bit and piece to pull it all together. Commendable effort nonetheless. I was very put off by the colors at first glance but towards the end I kinda grew fond of em (except the dark green and the cockpit-kneecaps. eaaaugh.). But I suppose what's done is done, and it's not going to see the light of day again. Ah well, I guess it's a load off. Keep MOCcin, man.
The bottom six inches of leg are TOTALLY based on that set, well - if ripping them all the way back to the Technic bars, then reassembly after tripling the pins count. See the ratchet joints up at the Hips? - the first version was so heavy, I BROKE two of those. I needed more resistance, so I ended up taking the lower legs, rummaging until I found enough Bars to rebuild the legs UPSIDE DOWN (for a slight 'give' to the plastic, when the weight bore down), and attaching them, inverted with six additional black axle pins. Good eye to spot the skeleton, though, Max. In the end, I put the armor back in more or less the original arrangement, especially near the ankles, because I thought those trunc-cones looked best. The similarites unfortunately had to end there: they were just too weak for my design. In went four new 3X3X9 technic bars (two for each leg, inverted) to in effect double the joint resistance. Incidentally doubled the leg Height as well, but it didn't seem overtall for the scale of the Torso Cage perched atop them. Even that reBuild didn't satisfy, I was hoping for a strip-and-refit including tripled Ratchet-joints, so the legs were Poseable instead of just swivelable. But Gravity and Fate had other plans. =( Thanks for the Review, Max!
Quoting Steve The Squid I like the use of system, and the colors add a sinister "silly" look to it, especially considering the neo-classic space implications!
SILLY is a fitting Epitaph for the whole mess, I think. The concept grew out-of-hand all-too quickly. And then, was too much trouble to Revise. I just scowled at it everyday, and thought "Maybe I could... no, that won't work. Or, how about if I... Nope. Stupid Laws of Physics..." and similar. The Classic Space bits were a lark I thought only I enjoyed, but after months, they... kinda grew on me. (Like a Fungus). Cheers, Steve! Thank you all for Looking! Headed to bed, will check in tomorrow. ~The Birdman

Quoting Monarth GS Impressive, just impressive. While such a project must've been hard to work on, I love the end result, even if it wasn't finished. While there is some inconsistency in the color scheme, it doesn't really bother me. I very much approve your effort, from the standpoint that it would've been something even greater without the drawback you experienced. Cheers, can't wait for your next projects =]
Monarth, that's very circumspect of you to observe. And it WAS hard to emote on my feelings about O.G.R.E. Love/Hate, an infuriating unfinished-painting, my Frankenstein... *sigh* THANK you for that insight, m8. =P

Quoting L.A. Miranda For the impressive size, this MOC is pretty epic. However, I don't find it one of your best works precisely. Maybe it's due to the great amount of color touches which, at least for me, doesn't fit it very well. And since you're pretty good at painting (and you do it regularly) I don't think that should be a problem for you. Talking about the structure and design, it's, like always, a great masterpiece. For that size, it's very well covered and had a tons of nice designs, for example, for that beautiful tail, the 'belly armor' made of Hordika chests and others, or the legs, which I like a lot. A MOC of this size is never easy to get properly, but, except for some color touches, as already I've said, you have get a true piece of art, my dear. I would like to see a regular Toa-size set piloting it (only for set appearance, not necessary a story-canon pilot) with two small Matoran-sized pilots on the legs; and that Worme who defeated this massive thing (I understood the Kriespire is his -her?- sword)...
No, no, Miranda, you are SPOT-ON, but your Comments are just AHEAD of me trying to get the explanations in!!! =) The uploader CRASHED this morning after 2 hours of writing, and I'm taking no chances. Bear with me, I'll finish this Reply in a bit! =) -It's NOW been a Bit - The Kreigspire is actually Valkyriel's great Spear - she's the one who destroyed this UberMech (I suppose it'd have taken an Ancient to do so) It's trace metal, and O.G.R.E.'s 'blood', that was found in 10029b: 'Worme' was still alive at the time of O.G.R.E.'s destruction - he will be dealt with... at another time. ;) I hope the additions have helped flesh out your understanding. THANKS for the Review, Miranda =)
