My creation is finally nearing its final state. I've got a few new buildings I want to put in, but that's all. I love the way the layout has changed. I'm also currently working on giving the city and the buildings some Sindarin (elvish) names like Aramar, or the royal dwellings. You can tell it has changed a lot (hopefully for the better). Before the ground was that old brown color, which I do like, but it made the red roofs disappear. The build is now over 17000 pieces, so I decided to throw away any ideas to make a landscape, a cliff, and a bay with water. I figure I will be putting in at least 5000 more pieces before my next and final post.
About this creation

This shot shows an overview of the city as it now stands. Below is a photo of the old layout. You can see that the new city has doubled in size thanks to Aramar, the royal dwelling. The ground color is much more pleasing. The city has lost a bit of its visual ďdustinessĒ, but I think it looks much better.

Itís funny, Iíve tried to recolor the city (mainly the sand yellow and the earth orange) so that every part I use actually is available on the un-extended version of LDD, and I found all the pieces on Brickshelf, but it just could not feel the same way. Switching to brick yellow and new dark red really killed the vibe of the buildings, so I reverted to the earthen colors.





This shot shows another, closer view of the city. I just love all the shapes you can see. I like that the palace is both square, and round. I think that mixing the square rooflines and building shapes with the round/spherical ones gives it a more natural feel. All rounds or all square would look odd.


These are some reverse shots showing the rear of the palace. They also let you look at some of the details masked by buildings in other views




This is one of my favorite shots of the place. It is very crowded, and until you get familiar with the buildings, it can be overwhelming, but I like it. Also, it shows the awesome curvature of the palaceís lower roofline



This is the layout as of now. It has changed around entirely since my first WIP. I made the palace separately, so when it was complete, I just had to move groups of bricks around to look nice. Every building is in a group of its own, so it is very easy to readjust the layout and color scheme. As you can see, the Aramar takes up about half of the model. The other buildings, like the market which I previously thought were large, are now dwarfed. I had originally wanted the bridge to look like a long expanse, coming from the fog or mist, but now is relatively small.



Here is a shot of the bridge. It hasnít changed much. It moved over a bit, but is otherwise original. I still havenít figured a way to make it curve and still give the look it has, so it will probably remain straight. However, in the future I may try to make a curved bridge work.



A shot through the bridge. I like that it looks covered from this angle, but it looks open from the side.



The entrance to the city. I still love this pillar style. Also, the elvish boy knows how to juggle. Awesome.



I like the bell tower less as Iím developing better techniques. I still love the bell, but the building could use some improvement.



The stables havenít changed at all since I first put them in. except for some banners at the corners of the building. The only change here is that instead of it being right next to the market, with the bad end of the horses facing the food stall, it now is off by itself.

The market. The building hasnít changed at all. An update in LDD since my first WIP gave us more elf hair. Before I was using the short elf hair and the Dumbledore hair, but now I can use the long elf hair



One side of the market. Last time I didnít really give good shots of the inside, so I am revealing a bit more this time. On this side of the market from left to right, we see the weaponsmithís stall, a stonemason making a statue for a new building, a man selling brass and gold wares, and finally a man with goats and sheep for sale.



This side shows the food stall, a painter a goblet and bottle maker, and a bowyer. You can also see a man at the right cataloging sales for tax purposes.



This shot reveals the inside by removing the top. Some guards are patrolling the inside. Also, we can see some of the imperial guards being lined up and spoken to by the high general.



Whoops, I guess I took two of the guards in rank and file.



The loopy building. I hoped putting it at this sideways angle would help reduce that terrible loopy look. Still not entirely sure what it is used for, but Iím guessing it is some official type building.



Now on to the building everyone loves, the kingís court. I put some banners on it to make it match Aramar. In addition to the kingís court and the turban, it is now called Pelaran, which roughly translates as ďencircling the kingĒ. I also fixed the feet on the columns so that they faced the same direction as the column they were attached to

This is a new tree design I have been using. I like it better that my other one, as it looks more realistic. I know I kinda over-used it in the model, but Iím hoping to add some more shrubbery and maybe some grass. If LDD, and my processor allow it.



Some soldiers returning from a hunt. I had a huge gap here, and decided to fill it up with this. Also, you can see the second tree design I have on the right.



Finally, the palace Aramar. I started this model with the curved wall. I started making this curved wall independently, but in the end, I completely borrowed Krazy Kastle Krak Guyís Curved Amphitheater wall technique for this. After that I did the curved roof, then the front wall, the towers, the sides, and then that back wall. The roof was the final thing, with roof access so the guards can get in and out



It was actually kinda hard to get good pictures of the wall itself. I will be posting another MOC just for Aramar. I put a solid wall at ground level, and high arches for the second floor. There are doors at the two spots where the second floor meets the straight wall. This would probably be one of the strongest structures in the build, as every spot is reinforced with hinges, arches, columns, and the arch hinges. I decided to keep my column style versus the square columns on Krazy Kastle Krak Guyís original model.


The side wall. I decided the side and rear were mainly unimportant, but I put some balconies on both. I love how the round towers turned out, and Iím glad I could carry that stripe across near the bottom.



The rear of the building. Fairly simple. It would look much better with real bricks as you canít really see the definition of the arches beneath the balconies. I do like how the red arches turned out though.



The elf queen and her messenger at the palace well. I had not originally envisioned that the fountain would look like this, but the flex tubes worked too perfectly to pass this up.



These are the front balconies. I am not a huge fan of these, but I love the statues and the wreathed sword. I also tried to carry the guard rail from the bridge over to here



Aerial view of Aramar. I like the odd rounded shape the roof took. The inner part of the curved wall is almost exactly 90 studs across. This made it very easy to connect to the building. I donít like to have floating buildings, or even floating sections. The columns on the curve are lifted off the baseplate, but the curve is actually connected to the building.



The statues and wreathed sword which I love so much. A little hard to see in pictures, so if you want to see details download the lxf and take the grand tour for yourself.

the state you see it in is mostly finished. i've been at navy bootcamp for the last too months, so i've done no work on it, but i intend to focus on making a port with ships, and maybe add some small buildings

thanks! I'm can't wait to get the last details in. Don't need to ask me, bricks are bricks, if you can make something aweomse with them, then do it! I've borrowed most of the techniques I use. I was actually hoping you might be able yo help me with something. I want to get a good ldd building contest started before August. There aren't a ton of ldd castle builders out there, buy i thought you might be interested.

I would love to do some landscaping with this, but I know my computer cannot handle it. i have a dio I'm working on where the buildings are only about 12k pieces and the landscape makes the model 32k, and I can no longer open the file, because my laptop cannot process it. I plan on putting in some grass and bushes, but not as much as it deserves
