External Maintenance Craft
About this creation
So the answer is, “Yes, I will be teasing you with WIP pics for a while on this one.”

The largest project I have undertaken to date progresses. Sure, at a similar rate of progress as continental drift, but slow progress is still progress, isn’t it? This is another microscale ship, what I am thinking of as a maintenance craft. In deep space travel, the possibility of “pulling over for repairs” is slim at best. If there is a component of external machinery that malfunctions on a large ship or damage is sustained from the floating perils of space, there needs to be some way to repair the damage when there is nowhere to dock. That is the designed function of this craft. It’s small and nimble and equipped with two clawed arms to facilitate most repairs during deep space travel.

Thanks for bearing with me on this one. If you’re in suspense wondering what the finished product will look like…so am I. In the meantime, please enjoy another WIP entry and let me know what you think.

Quoting Garry King Bring on the teasing tit-bits. Love em. Fantastic creation. Looks complex at first and them WOW easy and a great choice of elements used. WELL DONE and please show some more.
Thanks, Garry. Great to hear from you. Sit tight. The finished product should be complete in hopefully less than a week.

Quoting Mihe Stonee teasing sucks... ;-) But this little fighter looks good ! And i know i wasn't better with my Nostromo... ;-)
Yeah, I'm a stinker. Thanks for the compliment, Mihe. However, it's not a fighter. My latest undertaking is a peaceful craft with no weaponry to speak of.

Quoting Michael Rutherford Simple is good! I am especially taken with the use of the gray wheels on the outsides of the claw anchor points. They look like big overpowered servos that would provide the opposing claws with great leverage while floating over a work site. Black looks good on the table, but it is the hardest color to photograph well. You do an excellent job of presenting it here though. Every detail of this small package of details is quite clear to the viewer. Good stuff. Attack!
Glad you like it, Michael. The idea of using the wheels was pretty similar to how it looks to you. I had a later thought, though, that it's operating in the vacuum of space, so there really won't be any heavy lifting. Oh well. The photography was a little rough for such a small craft. I took several pics with different lighting just to try to get the look right.

Quoting M2com McKinney Simple yet so awesome. Love it! This would look great in a little docking scene or next to a larger ship. Very very nice.
This will definitely be next to a larger ship. We're looking at about three feet long as it stands right now.

Quoting Brian Kescenovitz Tease away, big boy.
Hahaha. Thanks Brian. Hopefully the teasing will be worth it when I finally add the final piece to this work. By the way, glad to see you starting to post again.

Quoting Eric W. Cute little bugger! I would like to see several of these repairing sections of your big ship you are working on...
Thanks, Eric. I would too. I only have four of the claw pieces, so there's only two, but I think it still looks pretty good.

Quoting Mastermind ¿? Ha, I have a strange description for this Maintenance Craft... cute! (Or at least I think so...) But anyways, can't wait to see what's next!
I'll take cute;) My anticipation to see this work completed is killing me, man.

Quoting Romany Woodhouse Sorry I haven't commented in a while Tim, life has been racing past and has left me little time for Lego. This is a sweet little craft - incredibly cute and very evocative. I know this is part of a larger microscale MOC but this would also work as an unmanned craft at minifig scale. I can picture a battalion of these swarming over a stricken capital ship! Really looking forward to seeing the overall build take shape.
Thanks, Romany. No worries. Life has a way of getting in the way of the things we want to do. The time that I've had of late to work on this latest MOC has been painfully limited, which is why it's taking me so long. I have actually considered rebuilding this craft in a later project, bringing it up to scale to fit a fig in it. We'll see.

Quoting Matt Hanson Very neat little ship. I can picture it buzzing around it's mothership, fixing this and that. Is it meant to go with your WIP? - Will it be included with the WIP when it's presented?
Thanks, Matt. It is going with the WIP, and I picture the same thing. Hopefully when it's finished, these little craft won't look out of place.

Quoting Chris Roach great things can come in small packages!
Too true, Chris. However, my last two posts are just small parts of a much larger MOC. Thanks for the encouragement, my friend.

Quoting Mr. Xenomurphy Though I'm not a huge fan of WIP pics, I enjoy these here very much. As little as the craft is, it is well designed.
Truth be known, Thorsten, I'm not really a fan of them either. I wanted to add the ones that I've been doing because it's taking me a while to complete this latest project and I want to chronicle the progress a bit on this one. As it is, it will be my largest work, and currently the one I'm most proud of. On a side note, I saw that you were featured in the latest issue of Brick Journal with your Spider Man work. Congrats, good sir. Never a more deserving recipient of such an honor.

Quoting Brick Boy You must need a tissue, because this has got some awesome SNOT! Nice work, really. -Brick Boy
Thanks a lot, Brick Boy. I may overuse SNOT at times. It is one of my favorite things to do with LEGO. Glad you like the work on this one.

Quoting matt rowntree Handy little appliance there! Now if we could just see the kitchen. =) You big tease! ;)
Thanks, Matt. I always appreciate your comments. Yep, I'm gonna tease you with this one for a while. We'll all have to wait until it's done, or until I lose patience and have to show it off prematurely. If it's any consolation, it's killing me to know how this is going to turn out, too.

Quoting David Roberts I love the stud angles and overall shape of this little ship. It looks perfect for scuttling around and shift bits of steel and stuff about a big starship. Please stop teasing us and show us the big build!
Thanks, David. Glad you like it, and that you think it fits with my vision of it. The whole enchilada is still in the progress. It's perhaps a bit over halfway. Patience, good sir. I don't want to post any WIP pics of the main part of the build unless it ends up taking me considerably longer than I'm expecting it will. I'll just let the suspense mount;)
