MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT W/ INJURIES
(REPORTED SERIOUS) 23:29
On a foggy Friday night, on the back roads located on the town lines of Washington Heights and Blackbrick Creek, a fatal motor vehicle accident occurred. At around 23:27 hours, a 911 call comes in from a frantic woman describing a serious accident on Deerpath Road, on the town line. The dispatcher toned out Washington Heights and Blackbrick Creek Fire and EMS units to the area. Blackbrick Creek Engine 1811 arrived first on scene, reporting a serious accident with injuries and entrapment which led him to request a medical helicopter. The dispatcher then toned Laroux FPD for an engine to secure an LZ for the helicopter. While Washington Heights Engines 1-12 and 2-12 were responding, a Blackbrick Creek fire officer reported a possible fatality and to keep all units coming in. Washington Heights Rescue 1-12 arrived next, and began stabilizing the heavily damaged truck while EMTs worked the patient who was in traumatic arrest. Engine 1-12 arrived and pulled a cross lay hose for protection while the crew of Engine 2-12 ditched their rig and assisted the Rescue in extrication. Engine 2-12 shut down the road on the Washington Heights side, while crews worked to free the trapped man form his vehicle. The woman, who was driving the truck, only suffered a few minor injuries and refused transport. After eight minutes of intense extrication, the man was freed. Unfortunately, paramedics on the scene made the presumption and canceled the helicopter. Units cleared the scene around 0100 hours.
The couple was returning from a party at ST. Christopher’s University and the male party was intoxicated. It was assumed the female party was driving him home when the accident occurred. The cause of the accident has yet to be determined and is under investigation by state and local authorities.
