Monarth, guardian of shadow, a gifted student, a friend... He had been away for several years now and Vidra missed him everyday. She assisted master Kronion in the daily task of teaching elemental and fighting skills to students. The students noticed she had something, or someone, in her mind and asked her once in a while about the person. She gladly answered everytime, yet left the name unmentioned.
It was dinnertime and everyone was eating outside at the lookout of the temple. It did not take long for a surprise to happen. A portal opened above the firepit and a stone tablet fell through, putting out the flame. There were carvings on it of a familiar language stating "The one you have sent is ready to come home, but he needs help".
It was too much for Vidra, as she knew the message was about Monarth. After negotiating with Kronion, she was convinced going through the portal was worth the risk and gained an uncertain approval from Kronion, who was aware of the situation aswell.
Vidra was ready. Above her sat a portal of blue, swirling smoothly like it had been there always. In fact, it was the same portal through which Monarth had left. Vidra took a deep breath, closed her eyes and leaped through...
It was a mere second and Vidra was on the other side. To her surprise, the wind caught her like a ragdoll and she couldn't help it. The wind was too fierce and every raindrop around was like needle stinging her body. It seemed like the end of the line for her and the brief moment felt like forever as memories flashed through her eyes. Hope seemed lost until she saw the shadow of a huge figure in front of him...
"Gotcha!" The figure said as it grasped her with its huge hand and covered her from the wind with the other. Vidra shook her head as her sense of balance returned after the spinning in the wind. She looked up at the black titan, who seemed rather excited. "I was doubtful the message got through, but seems like I was wrong. We have been expecting you." Vidra was puzzled as questions filled her head. We? Where was she at? Who was this large figure that had saved her?
The titan introduced himself as Vertigus and explained that he was sent to watch the portal in case someone came through after the message was sent. It had been a tedious process finding the portal and figuring how it works, but it all seemed worthwhile for the moment. Explaining the other questions, Vertigus informed her that the location she landed in was the Comet of Treads, a flying wasteland that was born around the body of an ancient being who was hardly alive.
After some time of walking, they were at a temple, where Vidra was introduced to Agrotis, the colossus elder. The elder was a charismatic and wise persona, who explained the situation: Monarth was guarding the core of Treadanus Nui, which was a task that was becoming harder and harder to bear before the dying being. Agrotis, having been in contact with Monarth using a dash owl, had to figure out a way to enter the gate to Treadanus Nui's innards and it was realised that it would require help from someone much smaller, explaining why Vidra was there now.
Wasting no time, Vidra was placed by the hole the dash owl had used and she found her way to the other side. It didn't take long before the door was open and Vertigus and Agrotis saw the innards of their creator for the first time. After a brief walk they found the central chamber and Monarth, who seemed to be in a meditative state unlike anything Vidra had seen before. Vidra was awed, yet cried tears of joy seeing Monarth again. However, there seemed to be no way of getting through to Monarth as the meditation provided a shield around him that easily knocked Vertigus off his feet. Vidra explained they had no choice but to wait, seeing as Monarth had to wake at some point.
It didn't take long, when a TYAST came from it's circle and engaged attack on the 'intruders'. The three had no choice but run, as the armed giant robot wasn't something to be fought head on even for a colossus.
After a brief chase, the robot shut down and fell on the floor, as if it got broken. After the initial awe, they saw Monarth standing atop the TYAST with his staff through the robot's neck. "I probably should've warned you about these things", Monarth explained as he looked at the group who stared at him, like they've seen a ghost. "Vidra, you made it! Come give me a hug!" Vidra ran and hugged Monarth, though not as hard as she wished to, as she still wasn't able to tell about her feelings. She managed to whisper "I missed you" and dropped a few hidden tears. Monarth looked up at Agrotis. "I assume you're Agrotis. It is great to finally meet you face to face." Agrotis nodded. "-Likewise."
After settling down for a discussion, Monarth told about his years as the guardian and explained the situation with Treadanus Nui, who had requested Monarth to find a way for Agrotis to come in. Feeling obligated to his duty, Monarth had to figure a way of doing so without leaving his post, which has lead to the arrival of the group. "I believe it's time for you, Agrotis, to meet your creator." Monarth stood up, walked to the gate to the core, placed his hand on it, opening it.
Before the group was a chamber filled with radiant light, the living essence and power source of the being whose deep voice echoed around the corridors. Monarth stood forward. "Treadanus, I have brought Agrotis before you, as you wished long ago." The being spoke: "Monarth, you have done well and your will be released of your duty soon." Monarth bowed slightly, thanking him, while he spoke again. "Now, Agrotis you have lived a long life and I have watched you go through all of it. You were the first colossus of them all and you have carried part of my essence. Now I want you to carry all of it, it's the only way I can survive and the only way for the survival of the colossi... I hope you will accept this burden. It may be hard, but it may also lighten your way." Agrotis looked up to the light and accepted with no hesitation.
The light in the room formed into a beam that blasted inside Agrotis. After the process was over, Agrotis possessed the remains of Treadanus Nui's power and looked stronger than ever. Agrotis looked down at Monarth. "You are freed of your duty, Monarth. You can go home now."
The group was back at the portal and Monarth and Vidra were ready to go through, as they were guarded from the wind by Agrotis and Vertigus. Monarth turned around at Agrotis. "Agrotis, your friendship has helped me through this experience, being a great source of strength for me. However, I can't help but feel sad for the fate of your home, and I want to find a new one for you. I promise, I will be back one day and I will guide you home. A real home." Agrotis nodded and spoke: "Thank you, thank you both. While our encounter hasn't lasted for long, it will be remembered as the day when Treadanus lived on and as the day you have given us new hope. We will be waiting. But for now, goodbye..."
It was night and only silence spoke at the look out. Vidra came from the portal, with Monarth after her. The portal closed behind them and Monarth took a deep breath. "It's good to be back. The air, the view, the feeling, I had forgotten it all, while I was there." Vidra, took Monarth's hand. "Come, let's go meet the others." Monarth looked at Vidra, and smiled a bit. "There's no rush. I think I just want to sit here now and let it all sink back in. I'm not even sleepy." So the two sat at the lookout, talking about what had happened in both worlds and it soon came clear that the happiness of the moment was a blessing to be enjoyed. Looking at the horizon, Monarth could see the silhouette of the city of Goldoa and knew that he would be soon there facing the first challenge of his life...
To be continued...
Monarth's back without the weapons.
Oh man, it took hours to write this... And this is the long story short and so far what I've managed to figure of Monarth's story. I have figured some other bits too, but they'll be for later chapters and need some filling before they're ready.
Also, meet the latest Monarth! This is like his V6 or something, I've lost count. His last form was presented nearly 1,5 years ago, so I'm very happy I finally got to post this. Upgrading him was a long process, due to the initial plan of making him a transformer, that would turn into his dragon form. It failed horribly and I finally got around to upgrading him the normal way. I may build his updated dragon form later, but for now I've got some other things planned. I've gained two part orders and will be experimenting with those for the while.
Thanks for looking and expect more soon. Next time we're looking to the future of the Elemental Universe...
Well, it's a good thing I didn't post my Self-Moc update, it would have been completely overshadowed by this thing. It's absolutely amazing. How you achieved the look of his tail is professional, the portion where it actually branches from the body looks very life-like(for a BIONICLE.) The only thing I don't really like are the forearms, they need some fill in the sides.
