“’Lock! ‘Lock!”
Lovelock’s hearing started to return to him before his vision did but slowly he came around and realized that someone was calling his name.
“Lovelock! Come on!”
He blinked repeatedly and then as his eyes adjusted, he saw the helmeted form of Phoenix standing over him.

“Come on! We have to go!”
Lovelock was lying on the floor in what he guessed was a containment cell inside the Delta 4 base.
“What’s happened?” he asked, confused.

“We’re alive, somehow.” Phoenix answered and pulled him into a sitting position. “I’ve just killed the guards and we have to go, now!”

Lovelock looked over to the open door and sure enough, two bodies lay slumped against the wall.

“Come on! Now’s our chance to escape! Let’s go!” Phoenix grasped his pal’s hand and yanked him to his feet. They briskly walked to the door and picked up the dead soldier’s weapons as they were without their own.

“How did you do it?” Lovelock asked as they set off carefully, jogging down the corridor.
“As soon as I woke up, I kept track of their movements and then at the only point when both their backs were turned, reached through the bars and snapped the first’s neck and then used his gun to shoot the other. I used the first guards key to unlock the door and then woke you.” Phoenix replied as they continued through the passageways.

“Quick! In here!” Lovelock pulled on Phoenix’s arm and took them both into a small storage room as footsteps were heard up ahead.

They hid beneath a counter just inside the door and watched as two sets of armored legs walked past in the direction from which they’d just come.
“They’re going to find the bodies!” Phoenix realized with horror and to prove his point, seconds later a shout was heard and running footsteps, closely followed by a wailing siren. The alarm had been raised.
“Great.” Lovelock muttered as they stayed hidden.

“We have to contact Blast, get them here.” Phoenix whispered so as not to be heard.

Lovelock pulled out his comlink and entered the code for The Manipulator’s bridge.
“Come on, come on!” he hissed urgently as he waited for somebody to answer.

On the bridge of The Manipulator, Falcon had just walked through the door as the holoprojector started bleeping to his right. He walked over and pressed the activation button.

The hologram buzzed into being and he was confused at first as to what he was looking at but then realized it was the crouched form of one of the scouts.
“Falcon here. What is it?”

“Falcon!” Lovelock whispered urgently. “We need evac’, fast!”
“Whoa, what’s happened?” Falcon tried to slow him down and work out what was going on.
“The F.I.S. are here and we were captured. We’ve escaped now though but they’ve realized we’re gone and are searching for us. I don’t know how long it’ll be before we’re discovered.” Lovelock’s hologram glanced nervously to the side and Falcon assumed he was keeping a look out.

“Okay, I’ll inform Blast and we’ll work on a plan. Hold out as long as you can and we’ll get back to you with the plan of action. Falcon out.” The commander ended the link and then after visually scanning the room for Blast and not spotting him, ran from the room and into the escape pod corridor.

Just a minute later he arrived at Blast’s private quarters and knocked rapidly on the door. A call of “Enter.” Came from within and he opened the door. Padfoot was perched on the edge of the desk while R.K. himself sat in his chair to the side, rubbing his chin whilst thinking.

“One of the scouts, Lovelock I believe, just made contact.” Falcon told the pair who paid close attention. “He said that the F.I.S. are there and that they’ve captured both him and Phoenix.”

“Are they alright?” Padfoot queried.
“Yes. They’ve escaped but the F.I.S. will find them soon.”
Blast stared blankly at the wall as he thought of what to do and then stood up. “Okay, let’s go get them.”

And so mere minutes later, the U.R.S. leaders were in a shuttle and on their way down to the base.
They’d stopped off at the bridge where they’d got back in touch with Lovelock and informed them of what was going to happen.

The scout had been told that if they could make it to the main entrance then the leaders would meet them there.
In the base, Lovelock passed the message on to Phoenix and when they were sure the coast was clear, set off towards the rendezvous point.

The U.R.S. leaders exited their shuttle that had just touched down on the front landing platform and slowly made their way towards the main entrance.
“No resistance.” Hess pointed out quietly as they checked all around, ready for an attack by the F.I.S..
“Strange.” Shock responded and his gas mask let out a small burst of air. Each of the leaders had attached their gas masks to the breathing holes on the front of their helmets so that they were safe from any airborne poisons. The helmets themselves were designed to filter out anything harmful but Blast insisted that they all wear the masks as well because they didn’t know how strong Delta 4 actually was.

The eight men picked their way towards the door and when they reached it, pressed flat against the wall on both sides.

Blast held his arm in the air giving them several signals and then on his order, Flare and Slash moved to the door and tested the handle.

It was locked as they’d expected and so Hess moved in with a small explosive that he placed on the lock and primed.

The men moved back and Hess detonated the charge, which blew the lock clean off of the door.

When the dust had settled, Blast slowly walked up to the door and slowly manually slid it open.

It was dark inside and he had to look hard to see anything but suddenly the lights turned on and Blast covered his visor from the sudden change then removed his hand in time to see two figures walking from a side door just inside.

“You could have just asked us to unlock it.” Phoenix joked as they walked up to the leaders.
Blast smiled relief under his helmet. “How are you?” he checked.

“Fine.” Phoenix put basically and Lovelock said the same.
“Good. Right, let’s get going. We need to find this chemical and destroy it as soon as possible. We can’t risk the F.I.S. escaping with any. Got it?” R.K. checked with everyone and they all nodded.
“Good.”

The leaders set off slowly into the base.
