Amikvale Outpost
About this creation
At the heart of the Lion Kingdom lies a green valley, where the soil is fertile and the produce is abundant - this valley is known as Amikvale.

Due to its central location, many travelers of all races pass through here. It is not unusual to see elves, dwarves, and minotaurs. Even orcs will occasionally wander into Amikvale! However, these creatures are not always peaceful, so to protect the villagers, a mighty fortress has been built.

Well, it's finished! Five weeks of building, two months before that of saving up money for BL, and my best and biggest creation ever is complete! If you've been following the WIP photos on Flickr, then you know that this is for the Auckland Lego show, which is happening here in New Zealand tomorrow. I can't wait!

Among the various challenges I faced in this build was the foliage. I bought 200+ plants for this build, and before that I'd only ever worked with about 25 plant pieces, (serious. That's how many I had) so that was something I'd never faced before. Now I have an appreciation for well done foliage :) Another thing was the supporting structure underneath. I originally planned on using Duplo and standard bricks for all of it, but I soon realized that I was very short on pieces, so my dad had the idea of using polystyrene. It's solid and can compress slightly, so it was the perfect choice.

I made all the plates separable for easy transport. Thanks to Blake Baer and Jack Bitner's LOTR builds for that idea.

Thanks for watching! I'll be posting a recap of the show after it's finished, so keep your eyes peeled for that :)

Fantastic layout, I especially like the landscaping and architecture. Some great techniques as well, the use of those upside down 2x2 tiles for roofing is sheer brilliance.
