Classic Space Mug
The classic symbol of galactic peace through tea & cake.
About this creation

Thousands of years ago men set out across the galaxy to explore new worlds and to go, boldly, where no man had gone before. They took advanced scientific instruments. They came in peace. They were slaughtered...

Undeterred, spacemen continued to travel to the farthest reaches of the universe, with their greeting of, "We come in peace". They were still massacred...

Eventually they just gave up. When they arrived at the next planet they said, "Would you like a cup of tea?". This proved to be a great success. The spacemen of the Classic era went on to unite the whole galaxy (just like the CofE).

Now you too can own a copy of the symbol of galactic peace and unity: the Classic Space Mug! Please send 7 Ningies to Llwyngwril Space Systems, ZZ9 plural Z Alpha for your own copy of a piece of galactic history (includes packing & teleportation costs).

FOURTH WALL

History tells us that these mugs proved to be a commercial failiure for Llwyngwril Space Systems. Not the most practical of design teams, they forgot to put a bottom in the mug (cunningly hidden in the photos) and the construction technique left hundreds of holes in the sides too. The company was bankrupted by millions of lawsuits from people who poured tea into their Classic Space Mugs and were surprised when they were scalded by the hot drink.

This is the pattern as I built it. I thought that I would be able to wrap it round and join it up. This proved impossible, so I had to rebuild the whole thing as a circle :( The design is based on True Dimensions' CS Flower Mosaic, though I had to change the space ship and remove part of the red jet to fit it into my grid.

Wow, this is great, too bad it can't really hold stuff! Makes me want to build my own mug now, maybe Johnny Thunder themed! Doubt I will though, most things projects that don't have wheels never get built in my case.

A big thank you to everyone who visited this creation and "liked" it after yesterday's MOTD. It was a real surprise to see it on the homepage. It's been a rollercoaster ride of fame for me this week. On Tuesday night/Wednesday morning I did with an interview with Joshua and Matthew from "Beyond the Brick": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDWIuYxb42M , which was great fun.

Quoting Dr. Monster Your MOC is fantastic! The logo comes through very well, and the shape s perfect, and it would look amazing on my desk with some pens and pencils in it too.
Thank you! If you'd like your own, just download the LDD file and then head for Bricklink. Spend carefully! :)

Quoting David Roberts Hi Nils, I've posted the LDD file for building the logo. You can get the Excel parts list from this, which is how I worked out the four Bricklink orders which I needed. Makes ure that you build it in a circle. I built mine flat and then tried to join up the two ends: no chance!
Thank you very much! :-))

Quoting Marc dZ " The company was bankrupted by millions of lawsuits from people who poured tea into their Classic Space Mugs and were surprised when they were scalded by the hot drink." Really I do not get it... ;) When you live without gravitation, English tea does not spread... It is "bubbling", isn't it? Excellent and refreshing as others say (for icetea, that's convincing!). A great idea to re-build vintage CS mugs. BTW, thank you so much for having stopped by my little creations. It was a real pleasure to read you.
In Britain we have a phenonmenom known as "Builders' Tea" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Builder's_tea), which is often a solid rather than a liquid and would stay in this mug in zero-g with no problem at all :)

Thank you! This build was a combination of seeing True Dimensions' CS Flower Bed on Flickr and thinking about how folk build Lego castles. I've realised that a lot of my spaceships use the same techniques, just with different greebles and orientated horizontally.

Quoting Reaper the Ultimate . First of all, this is absolutely amazing! Second, if you molded some plastic to fit inside, you could, more or less, have this as a functioning mug. I'd test it first, but it could work.
Thank you! It would be possible to put a 2x12 plate across the bottom, reinforce it and then drop a liner in. I'm not sure how much weight it would hold though...

Thank you! I had to map it all out using Excel spreadsheet cells first. I wasn't sure if it would hold together with all of the 1x1 plates in it. It would be possible to put a 2x12 plate across the bottom, reinforce it and then drop a liner in. I'm not sure how much weight it would hold though...
