Blast, Nightblaze, Falcon and Shock set off at a sprint towards the door as slowly the Delta-4 chemical started to eat it’s way through it’s containers.
Flare soon joined them as they ran and then about halfway up the aisle out from between two of the vats, Callum, still in Phoenix’s armour, crashed to the ground having been rugby-tackled from behind by Padfoot who lay on the ground behind him.
The pair scrabbled to get up but Callum was the quicker and managed to escape Padfoot’s grasp, however Padfoot had already grabbed a tiny device, roughly 2cm long, from his belt pouch and lobbed it from his crouched position at Callum.
The device hit the fleeing F.I.S. in one of the joins in the rear of his leg armour and stuck itself on without him noticing.
“What was that?” Blast asked his second in command as he helped him to his feet.
“A tracker.” Padfoot replied simply and R.K. started to grin at his friend’s brilliance.
“Yes! Good job!” he patted him quickly on the back and then they all set off again as Delta-4 started to cover the ground.
Slash and Hess were stood, waiting in the laboratory in which the hidden door to the plant was located and started fire at the F.I.S. as they ran out. They were outnumbered though and so took cover behind a metal desk covered in papers.
Once they could hear that they had gone, the pair stood up and made their way back over to the door to see if they could find out what was going on. But no sooner had they got there than the other U.R.S. leaders arrived, charging out.
“Let’s go!” Shock called as they got to them and continued running.
Hess glanced back into the plant as they left and saw the chemical covering virtually the entire floor and eating away at everything it touched.
“Whoa!” he muttered and started to run with the rest.
The F.I.S. leaders continued to run, led by Iadsgb, through the corridors of the base. Along the way, they stopped at Biosnake’s lab and Iadsgb burst in.
“Biosnake! We have to go!”
“I’m not done here!” the cyborg snarled, shuffling through a pile of papers on his desk.
“NOW!” Iadsgb bellowed as the other leaders waited by the door, watching on.
Biosnake turned and glared at Iadsgb, his yellow eye widening in a truly evil glare.
“If we don’t leave now, we will all DIE!” Iadsgb shouted and after a moment, the mad scientist turned back to his desk and snatched up a pile of papers then stormed past the F.I.S. head and out of the room.
Iadsgb shook his head in annoyance and followed, the other leaders following close behind.
It only took a couple of minutes and then they reached the exit onto the rear landing platform.
The group sprinted over to their shuttle and Jamie lowered the boarding ramp so that they could all climb aboard.
In just a minute, Fixer was in the pilot’s seat and they were taking off.
The U.R.S leaders had just reached the main entrance when the F.I.S. shuttle flew overhead. Hess started to fire at it but Blast pushed his gun down and said,
“No! We need them to escape!”
Hess hadn’t been there when the tracker had been put on Callum and so didn’t realize the plan, just like several of the other leaders.
“I’ll explain later but for now let’s get out of here.” Blast answered as the F.I.S. shuttle grew distant in the sky.
Later That Night…
Callum knocked on the door to Iadsgb’s private quarters and when he heard an affirmative call from inside, turned the handle and pushed it open.
Iadsgb was in his chair and swiveled it around as he heard the door open.
“Ah, Callum. What can I do for you?”
“I was just wondering what I should do with the U.R.S. scout’s armour?” he asked.
Once the F.I.S. shuttle had landed back inside The Desolation, the cruiser and it’s sister ship had taken off and gone into hyperspace, before the U.R.S. had even had a chance to get back to The Manipulator.
Callum had headed straight to his dorm and changed out of the stolen armour and back into his own, not noticing the tiny tracking device wedged in the back of the knee join.
“Um…” Iadsgb thought for a moment and wiped his mouth with the back of his fingers. “Just stick it in storage. You never know, we might need some U.R.S. armour at some point.”
Callum nodded. “Will do sir.” He made to leave but Iadsgb called his name and the General turned back to his leader. “Sir?”
“That’s the second time you’ve failed me. You promised you’d be up to the task and you’ve disappointed me.” He said quietly, however there was a very threatening hint in his tone that Callum couldn’t miss.
“I assure you it won’t happen again sir.” He reassured.
“It better not.” Iadsgb finished and Callum could tell that he was being let off very lightly. “Now get out. I have business to attend to.” The head of the F.I.S. turned his chair back to his desk and picked up his pen again.
The General nodded and backed out of the room, closing the door behind him.
Callum did as he was told and dumped the armour in a container after a ten-minute walk to the hold via his dorm to pick the armour up. He began to walk away but then stopped, frowning at something he’d just thought of.
He turned back to the crate and leant over it, moving the chest armour out of his way to get a better view of the legs.
He looked at them for a moment but then somebody appeared in the doorway behind him and he turned to see who it was.
“General Callum, Commander Stallion would like to see you on the bridge, sir.” An officer informed him.
“Thank you.” The General replied and forgetting what he’d been doing, left the room, following in the officer’s steps, the door automatically gliding shut behind them.
In the time it had taken Callum to dump his armour in the hold, there had been dramatic changes in the calm atmosphere in Iadsgb’s quarters.
Captain Biosnake had stormed in and was now having a loud argument with the F.I.S. headship.
“WASTED AND ALL BECAUSE OF YOU!” he bellowed in his robotic tone.
“The plant was exploding! If we hadn’t left, we would have perished! Every single one of us! Including you!” Iadsgb shouted back in defense.
“But now most of my notes are lost and the ones I have are useless!” he shook the sheets of paper in his human hand in Iadsgb’s face and then threw them on the ground at his feet. “Delta-4 is lost to us!”
Iadsgb ground his teeth and did his best to stare back at Biosnake as the Captain glared at him with his miss-matched eyes, standing several inches taller than him as well.
“I wasn’t prepared to let us all die!” Iadsgb reasoned.
“But now the chemical is lost! That formula was my life’s work!” Biosnake took a step towards Iadsgb who took an insignificantly small shuffle backwards.
“There’ll be other projects…”
“DELTA-4 WAS EVERYTHING!” Biosnake lashed out with his hook and smashed a glass on the desk into smithereens.
“Calm yourself Biosnake!”
“CALM MYSELF?! AFTER I’VE LOST SO MUCH?!” he bellowed and bore down upon the F.I.S. leader who suddenly became rather frightened.
“I’ve lost my notes, my formula, MY LIFE’S WORK and what’s more, downstairs there’s a hold full of Twi’lek who are now completely USELESS!!!” The mad scientist was breathing heavily and the sound came out as a gravelly rasp. He snarled and Iadsgb half fell and half sat down backwards into his chair.
He rested his elbow on he arm and rubbed his chin with his hand, looking past the menacing monster to the door.
He’d forgotten about the 100 natives of Ryloth that they’d captured as test subjects, locked away deep down in the belly of the cruiser. Without the Delta-4 to test on them, they were completely useless.
Biosnake growled again like some sort of mad animal and Iadsgb bit his lip and looked up at him, about to speak.
“NO!” the Captain yelled before his leader had even had a chance to speak and made him jump.
“NO MORE EXCUSES!” He slammed his hook into Iadsgb’s desk making a huge dent. “YOU STOPPED ME FROM FIGHTING ON RYLOTH, YOU LOST ME MY LIFE’S WORK, NOW I WILL HAVE WHAT I WANT!”
“And what if I can’t allow that?!” Iadsgb replied, regaining control over himself and standing up again with his hands on his hips.
There was a brief pause as the two men just stared at each other and then the Captain began to tremble and his yellow eye began flashing and then shrunk to the size of a pinprick before swirling back to it’s full size, now blood red.
“ARGHHHH!!!!” he let out an enormous bellow of rage and slashed his hook through the air towards Iadsgb who saw just in time and ducked down so it swung over his head.
Biosnake spun around and smashed his claw straight through the door and yanked it clean from it’s hinges, throwing it across the room, where it smashed into pieces against the wall as he stormed out.
Iadsgb stumbled out into the corridor after him and saw him disappearing off around the corner ahead.
“BIOSNAKE!” he bellowed after him but to no avail.
The F.I.S. head gave chase but Biosnake was faster and soon he’d lost sight of the cyborg Captain, but he knew exactly where he was heading and so was able to continue after him; The hold full of captives.
