CVN-80 Air Wing
Another WIP, though this isn't titled a WIP, mainly because, well, this is mostly about aircraft! I would like to, in advance, apologize for the yellow-tinted pictures; it was either that or completely wash it out; and I took these pics rather quickly, so, try and bare with it for a little while!
About this creation

Its a North Korean dream!

These are my F-18's, in formation. They represent the Super Hornet version; as by the time this ship becomes operational, they will be the only type of Hornet in service.

Close up on the bug. I built two types; two with a white 1x2 with a bar, with the other six (if my math is correct this time) built with light bluish grey 1x2 pieces with a bar.

Wow! Close!

The back, in all its glory.

...in this poorly light photography, taken by a camera, the view of a fleet of F-35C's can be seen, tucked into the shadows, due to the large cost overruns.

Is it a bird? No. Is it a plane? Eh. Is it a plane that has more controversy than the food in my school's cafeteria? Yes!

Let me make a note of something; I built one prototype of this plane weeks ago. I had no idea that Locutus 666 has the SAME TAIL design! It is, genuinely, a coincidence; neither one of us copied each other. But even so, I am giving a shout out to the one, the only, the master builder, Locutus 666!

Can you spot the difference?

Yes, I kinda ran out of light bluish grey 1x1 hook pieces, so. Instead, I got creative! These aircraft have special tail colors, to match their own squadrons! Yeah! (I'm not a rainbow warrior!) Also, they have different colored exhausts, because one of these planes will be positioned, ready to go on one of the EMALs catapults. Ooh, ahh!

And finally, we are here with my personal favorite of the lot, the E-2C Hawkeye! Simply love how this turned out!

Wow (pronounce with a short 'o'), I took a nice artistic shot! Score!

The bottom of this marvelous machine. To be clear, if you wish to use any designs you have, or about to, see, please, just a little mention folks, and you can continue forwards. Its all I ask!

Alright, I am going to shut up now, so you can enjoy some nice views of the entire fleet arm.

Alright, you sat through that. I'll reward you with one (final) WIP shot!
Wait what! No more WIPs? Is the carrier not being built?
No. Don't panic (if you are that into this), I just feel that I have given enough of the MOC away; adding another WIP will benefit no one, as it would show you, essentially, the final MOC, and we don't want that yet! To keep some secrecy, this will most likely be your last look of this carrier in construction. It will be completed; I am working at light speed to get it up and running.

That's it fellas! I did neglect to take pictures of the drones that will be on board the ship; guess you will have to wait for those! Yeah, my memory ;-(

Anyways, to end on a happy note, I am pleased to say that my group, the International Fan of Lego Debate Club:
http://www.mocpages.com/group.php/22580
Is up and running. A glitch, however, makes it look like it is not being used.

Check out Locutus 66's version of the USS Enterprise, CVN-65, in 1/350 scale, here !

---EDIT July 6, 2013------

This MOC, this, little WIP consisting of small aircraft, as made the "Most Discussed" section of "Explore Tab"! Thank you all so much for this achievement and your support!

Quoting Michael Rutherford Mr. Prasad. Thanks for the shout out about DA. As for DA2.0, I am not even going to think about staffing until next year. I will finish this game with Mr. Goldman, and then garner all the learning points I can, and then let it all stew in the back of my brain for the next 8 months or so. Attack!

Quoting Locutus 666 Those Nimitz ships consists of about 900 parts (incl the airwing)! Its incredible how much parts you can put in a ship modell that has "just" a length of about 30 mm.
I know, right! My carrier is simply gobbling parts; and considering that it is much larger than those 1/700 scale ships, :-0 Though, if the Reagan has a bunch of commonalities to your Nimitz that you posted, then it should be a good haul of parts! What else do you have built that you might consider destroying for the greater good?

Hmm, sounds interesting! Judging from your Nimitz class, it should give you a sizable portion of parts, at least to finish your deck.

Quoting Locutus 666 good news: I just set up another order today. With these parts the hull will not be complete but enough to start work (as far as i could see). I will do some pictures of my USS Ronald Reagan (a not uploaded moc) and scrap it to gain more parts (mostly for the deck). :)
Excellent! If you would like, I can send you the details to of my elevator system to you; it might help you evade some complicated problems, and help you get parts you might need in your next order. Just leave your email as a comment; I will get it down and delete that comment ASAP (trust me, I won't send you any viruses!), though that is up to. I am interested in what you came up for the USS Ronald Reagan.

Yup! I just build kinda spur-of-the-moment. I usually look at pictures, and look for areas that standout, and look easy to build; and build those, but thats all there is to it.

The angle is the problem. If it helps, at my Enterprise i took a length of 6 studs each then took a step 1 stud to the side and 6 studs. i hope u know what i mean.
I ca kinda see what you are saying. In the last picture of this MOC, you can see the outer white lines. The inner ones are kinda bothering me; I will just have to see.....

Quoting Locutus 666 Exact! "Secret tests". :) Im working in LDD to devide the deck and the hull into several parts to construct. I dont wanna use the LLD made inststructions for the hole ship :S
Ah, see that is an advantage you; my ships has no plans, no documents, just some random prototypes for elevator mechanisms, and a bunch of parts in a mess! I personally recently finished the deck; I am trying to find a suitable looking landing stri design; the stripe in the middle of the landing section. The island is also problematic; I have quite a few curved surfaces to deal with.

Quoting Builder Allan Exactly! :-D Swooshing with new builds also gives you a better view of hard-to-spot angles that might need a finishing touch. And a deck-test tells you if the scale is right :-)
Exactly. I mean, you have to check the deck angle by flying planes to and from the deck. And, I mean, to be realistic, jet noises need to be produced ;-)

Quoting Ed Bangor I'd recommend avoiding any Intruders and/or Prowlers. The Navy only maintians a handful of squadrons that are actively being repalced by the Growler (Super Hornet variant) and the USMC only has 20 birds in total, all land based. The Super Hornets is going to be around for some time. As is the E-2/C-2 and the Seahawk (Blackhawk). The F-35 is so new it isn't even on board a ship yet. So you can count on all of them being on the new Enterprise. Heck, you can even throw on an X-47 derivative, since those will probably be combat ready in the next 15 years or so. But the Intruder is long dead and the Prowler is dying. I wouldn't put them aboard a brand new ship, and I doubt the President, SecNav, or CNO would either.
No, I wasn't planning on putting them on board. I was planning on, maybe on the side, having a 1/350 scale aircraft pack with those in there, but its just a thought. I am having trouble coming up with a, complicated, looking drone, though. I mean, I could basically snap down a 1X4 right angled triangle plate, and there you have it, but it doesn't compare with details. I dunno. I might try something like the space planes from the ISSC, on a smaller scale perhaps, but all that is just details. In the end, I still have to finish the ship; and with some of the functions I want to add, I might have to bend my calculations by a brick or so.

Quoting jack kenyon Fantastic mini scale work! These are incredible! You should try an A6 invader too. One question, what is the carrier. Is CVN80 the last of the Nimitz class or the first of the new ones, the something ford class?
Thanks for the comment! The CVN-80 is a Gerald Ford Class ship. The USS Enterprise, CVN-65, which was retired last year; and it was announced at the decommissioning ceremony that the next Ford class ship, CVN-80, would be called the Enterprise. I have a few other requests for aircraft, so I might, on the side, try out some other aircraft.

Quoting Builder Allan A roach, now that's serious! I hope they didn't try and pass it as an olive :-D I think i would have lined up the planes on a finished deck too - just to see what it would look like, i mean.. yeah.. Seriously though, 'testing' like that also gives an idea of the look of the finished build. That way you can catch any problems before you have to take half the ship apart to fix it :-)

Quoting Locutus 666 The ligth bluish grey has a lot of options but not all. combined with old grey you have ALL options. :) Btw not all old grey parts are more expensive in BL then the bluish ones.
Yeah, thats true. If you have noticed, on some of my MOCs, I have a few light grey bricks; and for the longest of time I though they were discolored. Once again, my deck was tiled in light bluish grey, my plates were in ether light bluish grey or dark bluish grey, and the same story with the bricks. For me, I thought it was cheaper. Now, the selection of light-bluish-grey always seemed larger and cheaper, and, most importantly, more plentiful, than light grey, though that could be because I only started buying up large quantities of parts a few years ago. I do hope the construction is going well, yes? Really want to see, especially, how you are doing the elevators.

Quoting Locutus 666 I used different grey colors like old grey for the hull and island, dark bluish grey for the deck and light bluish grey for the stuff betwen them and airwing. Additional different colors for internal bricks which u will not see (cause they are cheaper).
Mhh. I wouldn't have bought the other colors from BL, though. I would've recommended to just buy large, boxes of loose parts from your local LEGO supplier; you know the kinds that you would get as a kid. They contain a large, sizable portion of parts, and should service you well. I had about two or three of these boxes when I first started with LEGO, so, I kinda hit the ground running. Mine will have less contrast in color than you; I felt that light-bluish-grey had WAY more options, so.

Quoting Locutus 666 Uh yeah i picked it up at the post office and it is my order. The 1/350 calculated dimensions for the F18 are 6 in length and 5 for wingspan. My F18 have these dimensions but to be honest, those correct dimensions cost them the unique shape. So yours are probably to big but clearly as F18s identificable. What about the UAV and some UH-60 choppers?
Yeah, as I was explaining to Ed, just below, I kinda forgot to take those pictures, so. I don't see much point in posting them, either, as I might as well have a little mystery! Congratulations on your order, as well! I am sure you can breathe a sigh of relief!

Quoting Ed Bangor So far so good. Just remember that you're also going to have Seahawks (blackhawk variant) and Greyhounds (C-2, the base of the E-2 Hawkeye - basically just build more and scrap the radar dish). If you want to go for realism, you're going to need about 90 aircraft total. And if you want to screw with people, a C-130 made carrier landings in the 60s just to prove that we can land troop transports/gunships anywhere we want. Just food for thought. Nice work so far, though.
Thanks. Yeah, I kinda realize after taking photos the extent of my incompetence; didn't take pics of the heli, or the drones. I will also be adding maybe one C-2. As for the C-130, hint, hint!

Quoting Locutus 666 I didnt expect anything less than this! :) Great airwing. The F-18s are interessting. But as far as I remember, wing span in 1/350 is only 5 studs but who cares. The Hawkeyes captured the shape. First I wanted to use the same dishes like you but I found a better part. I had the same idea for engines but in my final design, it wasnt possible to use them this way. The deck looks awesome, cant wait to see it finished! I have also good news with my Big-E. I just recieved a notice that I can pick up somethign at the post office. IT MUST BE MY BL-ORDER!!! argh 5 weeks! I set up another order this week and its already shipped. That means, I will be able to start building the airwing and maybe the hull of my ship, so the next real-steel-bricks WIP is coming soon! :)
Thats excellent news! I am anxiously waiting for your next WIP; is that your last order that you need? As for the wingspan of the F-18, I simply couldn't find a good way to make a 5-wide wing that looked true to form. This was the closest I could get. Amazing!! I can't wait to see the finished product, you are one of the best micro-scale naval builders I've seen and once again amazing build!!

Quoting Zach Eli "Sierra" Sykes What about the group? I had a friend quote something I said once and put it on their homepage and I think your skills deserve the same line: If you worked on it, it has to be impressive. (yes, you can quote that and put it on your homepage. Matthew Sylvan already did.) Love your little planes. The detailing even at that scale is off the chain (f-35 engines, Hawkeye props).
Hmmm. Group? Which one, Debate, Peace, (just realize how ironic that was!), 2147?

Quoting clayton Marchetti I like the e2s they came out great . I like the different tail colors that is a nice touch . I must say I miss the f-14s and the a6 intruders /prowlers . Great job the deck looks great too
Agreed. Those Tomcats, especially; an all time great. I am afraid, though, they were sadly pulled out in 2006-2007, well before the CVN-80 sets sail.
