On an exploration of the outer planets, scientists discovered a "7-foot, dark red mechanism" wander the wastelands of Osiris IV. Scientists captured it and returned to their space-station to examine it.
Analysis showed that the "Crab" was constructed of an seemingly organic shell that concealed many delicate, moving parts. Researchers speculate that the shell was grown separately, and the circuitry added later. Many sharp, dark spikes protruded from this carapace.
The automaton was outfitted with two strange, rubbery tentacular appendages. Closer examination revealed that the tentacles could split into five individual "fingers".
The robot's single azure acted as an advanced optical receptor. It was also capable of scanning objects, which it catalogued in it's highly advanced cerebral index. Although no studies were made, the researchers speculate that the index contained a vast library of information of planets, geology and even extraterrestrial life.
Unfortunately, the space station on which the "Crab" was being studied became subject to a vicious meteor shower. The station was hastily evacuated before the storm hit, and the crew was forced to leave the mechanism behind to make space on the one escape shuttle.
Another specimen was seen on a different, vacant planet, but it was too badly mangled to provide any information. Who made it and where it is from remains a mystery to this day.
