This is the Shadow and Flame Makuta form, my first entry for the 50/50 Challenge.
About this creation
Location: Destral (base of operations), outside of Metru Nui (currently)
Lived: 500 years before Great Cataclysm
Allegiance: Brotherhood of Makuta
Occupation: Creating Rahi, Killing Innocents
Element: Shadow, Stone (in Oculan's Form), Fire (in dual form)
Kanohi: Akari, Mask of Alternate Perspectives
Titles: Shadow and Flame
Little is known about this Makuta from history. He was assigned by the Brotherhood to defeat the Cryogen, who had escaped Metru Nui and could be a threat to the Makuta's power.
The Makuta, finding his prey, took on the form of the original opponent of the Cyrogen, Toa Onadus. However, not possessing the legendary Toa's powers, he was quickly defeated by the Cryogen's Ice and Telekinesis powers.
The Makuta decided to wield two powers instead of one, and transformed into a shape never seen before in the universe: half of him possessed his innate Shadow, while another half channeled Fire.
I was originally going to do a water/fire character with heavy Hero Factory armor, but I found that this idea would not work. Unfortunately, I had not thought of any good backups for this, and my mind went on red alert. Deciding to set it off tomorrow, I absentmindedly put together some mirror-image black and red elements before getting in the bed.
The next day, having no better alternatives, I decided to continue the design of the legs. I had chosen to add orange into the mix as well, with it on one side, parallel to the black on the other side. Some of the black on the orange side would be mirrored by red elements. I set up some arms, using two Power Miners drill elements as oversized armor pieces, set apart by a basic torso with a Hordika chest plate. I originally wanted to use Black Phantom's head, but after searching without success, I put Core Hunter's helmet in as a placeholder.
Until recently, I have been in the habit of leaving BIONICLE lower legs bare of armor. Trying to step up to the game, I decided to add Hero Factory shield armor. The only way I thought of attaching it was via some connector with a 1-brick-length pin, with a stud on one side, and a clip-bar on the other.... have you heard of it?
To get these to the right proportion, I stuck some other 1-brick-length pins on the other side, and covered the studs with some more black armor.
Following that, I decided to build a more original torso. I'll spare you the story of its creation, as it is one of trial, error, and unorthodox connection methods .
With the body done, I decided to find some weapons, that could use the twin pair of black and red flame elements. Eventually I constructed a shadow flamethrower and a fires spear.
Very nice concept! The torso is done very nicely, along with the legs. The lower legs (along with the upper arms) seem to out-bulk the upper legs (and lower arms). The weapons are also pretty nice. So here's a 7. Nice job!
